Wordpress Question: All-in-One-Seo-Pack

Am new to Wordpress. Have my new blog all setup, but have a quick question concerning the All-in-One-Seo-Pack.

When you make a new post with this plugin installed, you get these new fields ...

My question is: does the title shown here overwrite the normal post title or is it something different and if so, what does it edit?

Thanks

Yes the title in the seo plugin will take priority to the search engines in terms of rankings. However, your post title will still contribute since they will have the h1 tags attached to them.

    Hope that answers your question!

      Add your keyword in the:

      Title
      Description
      and in the keyword field.

That's all there is to the use of this plugin.

The title, description and keywords entered into All-in-One-SEO-Pack will take precedence over the existing ones in your Wordpress installation.

What one of the easy things about WordPress is that if something doesn't go your way (typically) it is an easy fix.

Play with the fields, save and go to the site and refresh the page.

In the title, it will show up in the 'tab' of your browser and in the very top left of your computer screen.

In the description, that is for the 2 short lines in your Google listing below the hyperlink to your site.

    Great plugin though.

Thanks to those who are trying to help. Let me explain the problem slightly differently.

When you make a post with this plugin installed, you get 2 x Title Fields:

    1. The Normal Post Title at the top of the post
    2. The one shown in the plugin

Now either the plugin field overwrites the normal field or it doesn't. My guess is that is doesn't because it would simply be inefficient coding to include it if it did. So that leads me to conclude that these two fields are used for different purposes.

I would appreciate it if someone who knows the answer would post what this additional field is used for.

The Title in the plugin does not refer to the same thing as the Post Title - the plugin Title is what you see at the very top of the browser window, above the address bar.

This does not appear to be the case. If you mean the title on the browser tab, it's not the plugin title, it's the blog title - another thing entirely.

the title that you put on your post is the title that is shown on your website for the post.

the title that you put in the seo plugin is the title that the search engines will show if your post appears in the search results.

if you leave it empty, both will be the same.

If you want search engines show the same title that visitors of your website see, leave the title of this plugin. Then both visitors and search engines see the same title.

sme got it right. The way I use it is to make a short title in the first field (the post title) as this is the thing that will be used as the anchor text for this subpage/post in the menu on your website.

So for example for an article about potty training for puppies where I would aim to be ranked high for a keyword "puppy potty training" I would end up using Puppy Potty Training as the post title (the first field, just above the actual post). This would become the anchor text to this post/subpage in the site's menu.

I then write a proper 60 characters long title in the All In One SEO Pack field as this is the title that search engines will pay attention to and it needs to be well written both from the SEO and copywriter's point of view (remember that people will decide whether to click on the link to your site after reading the title and description that appears in Google's results).

So for the same example I would put into All In One SEO Pack something like this:

"3 Most Effective Puppy Potty Training Tips!"

      Hope this helps m8

sme said it better than I could and is dead on.

    m8 has a great example.

Sorry I wasn't more clear, but hey that is the benefit of a community.
