Wordpress or blog? Which would be better for Search engine optimization?

Wordpress is a blog. If you are talking about a self hosted wordpress site vs a free blog, the wordpress account is better in the long run.

You ultimately own it and can control all features of it.

A free blog contains adds and is subject to alteration by the blog owner.

Go with your own Wordpress installation. Free services tie your hands and monetization is getting tougher. For example, many free blogging site no longer allow affiliate links.

With wordpress you can create website as well as blog. Wordpress is a very good choice for blogging. wordpress is highly SEO Friendly.

I think you must choose a Wordpress script installed on a domain. This is the best solution. A Wordpress / blogger subdomain are very limited and you don't have very good controls at the interval SEO.

It depends. If you want to keep growing a sites size then a CMS like Wordpress is a must but if you don't plan to update the site much then a CMS isn't.

It also depends on a lot of other factors mainly depending on what features or functions you need for the site.

  I'm a big fan of NOT using Wordpress. I prefer to optimize static HTML/CSS sites for Search Engines.
  
  However, right now I have a TLD that has Wordpress on it simply b/c I'm using it to post lots of Articles and News relating to websites. I'm using subdomains to rank for my targeted search terms/keywords.
  
  It's a win win! All the backlinks I build to the subdomains juice the TLD
  
  I like getting into the code and optimizing it to my specifications - HTML is much easier to edit than PHP IMO. Especially since I don't have any formal training in web design/editing/development/code!

wordpress with the right seo plugins and a good theme is great for SEO, I like the inove theme the best, you can get rid of the sidebar and get that html site feel.

But if you must use a free blog platform and are aiming towards adsense then use blogger/blogspot (adsense widgets) just don't expect the greatest rankings
