Hey,

recently we launched a new Interests based social network but we simply do not know what to do with SEO. We have spoken to various different SEO agencies but none seem to give me a straight answer and ALL want to rip me off.

I know the basics of getting ranked in google for keywords but just cant think of any keywords we should be targeting.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

bongal.com - Sorry i cant do links yet

    How about:

    social networks
    social networking websites
    business social networking
    list of social networks
    online social networking
    social networking
    top social networks
    social network community
    most popular social networks
    new social network

Most of which have over 2000 searches per month.

Thanks. Our groups in the site are all viewable by google. So you suggest I just make a group and add each of these as separate articles linked back to the discussion index page for that group? We have also been told to do Angelas links? What do you think? Sorry for sounding like such a newb to this.

Thanks. Do you have any other tips other than SEO for getting mass traffic? Or is it all down the the long slow process of SEO

Well, you should pick up Market Samurai for help with choosing keywords. Also, since you ARE a social network why not sign up on other social networks to promote your network?

Yeah we have triad that but it is difficult. I mean it is a way to get a few users but we need a constant stream of new visitors. We think we have a problem with speed too. Do you think bongal seems slow?

You can check and improve your page loading time with Google Page Speed and Yahoo YSlow. But you should do it more for your users rather than search engines, because it's a tiny factor in ranking.

The thing is that as it is all about interests, there is so many options, however terms like social network etc we dont think are terms often searched by young sociable people.

We want to add a group maybe and get that group ranking. We need to think of a keyword related to people that would enjoy a site designed to meet new people that share your hobbies and interests.

Any other ideas guys? Really appreciate it.

I will give them a go. The problem is, we have no real competition as we are a brand new concept. So it is difficult to use these tools to determine the best keywords to use.

If that's the case, and you're truly new - and you're based on specific interests - I highly suggest Facebook Ads. They don't work so well if you're trying to convert directly into sales, but for targeting a specific market who doesn't even know about your product yet, they can't be beat.

Would you go PPC or CPM?

I'd start with PPC until I got my ad copy so that it was converting well - then switch it CPM and drive the CPC through the floor

The best way to choose keywords is to describe exactly what you offer on your site. keyword relevance occurs when the keywords you use may be found in abundance in your site, especially in the title and description.

But as the site is a new concept, I worry people will not be searching for it. Like nobody will have searched for an iPhone before it was invented
