Any Advantage To Using Image Ads Instead Of Only Text Ads In Adsense

Hi there,
I have one site that is doing well enough for G to suggest I allow image ads along with text based ads. I've always read that text ads convert better, so I've been reluctant to allow a combo of the two.
If you have a decent money maker with an Adsense site, have you tried image ads along with text based ads? If so, what's your take on how they convert?
Thanks for the insight!

Forget about Google's 'suggestions' - there in Google's interest, not yours.

Whether or not to use image ads will depend largely on your site - it's look & feel, and subject matter.

Keep in mind, there are far fewer image ads than text ads. What this usually means is that a) you'll see the same few ads often, b) there may not be as many or as well-matched ads, and c) you may see lower EPC's.

if you have image and text, and 3 ad blocks, you run the risk of having all 3 ads showing the same image. If you are going to do images, then do 1 image and text, the rest text.

If your site gets untargeted ads no matter what you do, then change them all to image
and see what happens. If you are getting tons of visitors and no clicks, take a chance.

Some niches are better suited for image. Media, video, game, etc. sites may do better
with image. Info sites are best suited for text.

I think it is important to do your own testing on your sites and try these ads in either text or image ads or a combination. Then when you've arrived at some conclusion yourself then stick with this. It may be better than asking people to provide their results as that would not help you. Well having said that, text ads work better for me and I don't use image ads on my sites.

Thanks for the replies. Although I know I have to test to see how image ads would work, your points about there being far fewer image ads and the types of sites that are suited for them makes a lot of sense.
