Is Your Keyowrd Tool Working?

If you own any keyword tools, you might want to check to see if they're still working properly.

Specifically, check to see if you are getting the 'search results' numbers back for keywords

Google has changed a lot of their back room programming when they bought the new version of their keyword tool online.

Since every keyword tool gets the majority of the search data from Google, most are effected.

I have 4 keyword tools, and the only one still working in that area seems to be Market Samurai.

Keyword Elite is dead to me when it comes to Google results. I have contacted them about it, and they just keep telling me that they are working on it.

Keyword Elite, at least for Google IS dead. Support is unfailingly nice, but it is as dead as Marley's door nail. Since I depend on KE, and paid a hefty price for it, I'm somewhat miffed.
Brad needs to get with it.

I agree!! I am just a little bit erked about the whole situation. And then to give me generic answers like... "Keyword Elite will auto-update itself... wait for it." doesn't really keep me in the loop. Even one response I got was, "use google keyword tool for now" ... lol... so i just shelled out $97 bucks so you could tell me to use the FREE keyword tool from google that I already knew about?

Keyword Elite 2.0 has worked very well for me in the past. I believe it had Market Samurai beat in most respects. I get/got great info to help me choose the right keywords to at least have my best shot in whatever I was going for. Unfortunately it can't tell me the diff between keywords that will get conversions and keywords that will bring in only tire kickers. Dang! But I digress. KE2 is the foundation of all my great Google placing pages. (Of course there's lots more to getting top marks from hateful Google.) For instance I always factor in Google's own keyword data and the free Spyfu reports to see if I'm getting similar results.

I'd support Brad if he'd just out with it. Is he going to support his product? Is he going to give us at least a ball park estimate of when it will be fixed? Is he going to tell us what's going on?

He's been so busy lately with his super high end products that I fear he's lost interest in KE2 and isn't telling us. I'm about to my polite grrrr limit here. I've done a lot of bragging on KE2 and Mr. Brad over the last year or so. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to take it all back? He could solve this problem with a teensy little mail. I know he's got my mailing address because he's written me with every mega expensive new gimmick under the sun lately. In the meantime, my hat is off to his poor support crew who can't control what they aren't permitted to control.

            Hello,

Since October, Google had changed their keyword tool interface for few times. Sometimes they only changed the back end of the tool. I know this because i have my own desktop tool which coded to scrape data from Google keyword tool. Every time there is a changes, my tool will down.

To overcome the problem i add a new feature to my tool where i can import the list of keyword (which i download it from Google keyword tool's page in CSV format) into the tool.

Once the keywords are in the tool, i can start running competition queries (broad, exact, title, url, anchor) for all keywords automatically with a single click.

Hope this will give some ideas to others to reduce the headache.

            Cheers..

I'm a programmer and google is making it harder to mine the data in their tool for applications. I believe if they wanted to they could change parameters every day and make the life of the MS and MNF programmers hell. I actually got it it to load in my custom program only to have it break the next day.
You are dead right...Google is going be making changes to the backend coding on a regular basis. There are wanting to now make it harder for ALL keyword tools, other that Googles own keyword tool, to obtain search and competition data.

And you are also correct when you say that this wil create absolute havoc for all keyword tool programmers, because now they will have to constantly try to monitor their keyword tools.

We have identified that Google is making these code changes roughly every 15 days.

With our keyword tool we have developed an algorithm that constantly monitors the backend code Google runs. Then, when Google modifies the code our keyword tool is auto updated to work with their new coding. So it is never out of date and not functioning, even if Google changes their code on a daily basis.

I've heard a lot about Micro Niche Finder, but I haven't actually forked out the money for it quite yet. People are raving out it. It seems like it's really simple to use. I will let you know more later after I actually buy it.

Right now MNF version 5.2.9, its latest version, is having problem. It hangs and gives no result. But I believe the fix is on its way as they have a very good support history.

Market Samurai had their own suffering during the transition, but have been simply amazing at taking care of fixes quickly. I submitted a problem a few days ago and they told me the fix was on the way.

Two days later they emailed me telling me they had just released the update and thanking me for reporting the problem.

    Great service and support.

Google keyword tool is still the best. Nothing is better than that, not to mention it pits free. With the free resource on hand there is no need for any other keyword tool.

Most tools use the Google Keyword Tool anyway, that's not the reason you buy keyword tools, it's matching Googles Keyword data to the SERPS to check competition.

Enjoy doing that manually for 1000s of keywords

yeah I bought me some keyword tools. Like keyword elite and traffic Travis but truthfully I don't trust their results so much. I always end up re-checking their results with the Google keyword search tool.

I'm a programmer and google is making it harder to mine the data in their tool for applications. I believe if they wanted to they could change parameters every day and make the life of the MS and MNF programmers hell. I actually got it it to load in my custom program only to have it break the next day.

They are using hashing and other tricks to save bandwidth. Data is not transmitted using standard html, but rather thru encoded JSON. Another trick is to capture the CSV file behind the scenes. Look at the HTML source of your adwords page results, there isn't one shred of keyword data. This isn't uncommon on modern sites, and is certainly scrape-able, but they are adding an additional encodings.

Its not worth my time to figure it out each time it changes. I can keep a browser window open and select a CSV file with a click. Also, I like seeing REAL numbers for monthly trends.

I have my own custom competition programs, they just pull in results from the CSV and check bulk competition on keywords that have searches above a threshold. The MS main competition screen only allows one keyword at time, so it is not useful to me.

Market Samurai seems to work fine, their only flaw is that it tends to become very slow (at times)...

I'd also second their good customer support, it's something they have in common with Hostgator.

Dusted off Keyword Elite again after about 5 weeks. Noticed that there was an update, so downloaded that and auto-installed it. Did a quick keyword search using Keyword Surge and google, and it seems to have returned some results. Interesting.

Also noticed that I didn't have to enter the captcha like I normally had to.

And a quick comparison to Google Keyword Tool, shows Keyword elites results alittle off yet so they don't match up. Makes me kind of curious where Keyword Elite is getting its data from now?? hmmmmmmmMMmm...
