Hi, quick question:

How Do I Turn Any Link Into A Google Analytics Goal ?

i.e.: I want to know if a link (on a ppc landing page) is clicked or not.

Thanks

  • If I understood your question, you can know if a link to your landing page is clicked. What you need to do is create a tracking code in your google adwords account. The tracking helps to identify the keywords that make lead visitors to your site.

If you want to know the specific links that visitors click on when on your site, you need to install scripts. The scripts will record visitors actions on your site.

Hi thanks but that is not what I am asking.

If I add the tracking code on the landing page then every click will be a conversion. The tracking code goes on the thank you page.

I know I can create goals in google analytics to track clicks and I am asking if anyone knows how to go about creating them.

To create goals with Google analytics is not too difficult.

        1. First create an analytics account with google if you don't have one.

        2. Fill out the analytics settings page.

        3. On the profile settings page, you will see the goals page. Click on add goal.
You can call the goal whatever you want.

After that is done, simply put the tracking code on your website and the conversion page that you want to track. Make sure the code is before the </html> of the page.

Hi thanks for taking the time to answer me.

I know how to create goals but I was asking specifically on how to create a goal "to track clicks on a page".

That is a little different. Do you know how?

Once I get to the goal page the only option that is closer to what I need is:

          Goal type: URL Destination

But then I see that it would ask me to select a thank you page BUT I need to know when a link on the landing page is clicked not add a tracking code on a thank you page. Makes sense?

Thanks and sorry for the confusion...
