Hi
In relation to building niche websites for Adsense, I am finding some niche ideas that meet my various criteria.

But in analyzing the page 1 competition, besides the number of backlinks and Pagerank, what are some other things you also look at to see if the competition is beatable?

Also, in regards to analyzing their backlinks, besides how many, what else do you recommended looking at?

I have both SEO Quake and SEO Tool bar.

Thanks

What type of backlinks and how easy you can get them? Are they blog spam links or from "authority" sites. Site wide links? Forget "no. of competiting sites" that does not count. 10 ten is what counts. Whats your gut feel?

I don't really build websites just for Adsense so I look at a few different things that might not be applicable to your situation. Here's what I look at:

      - I use the allintitle:"keyword" search in Google. This gives me an idea of how many people are optimizing for that specific keyword in their title tags.

      - I do the same type link analysis as Michael. Look for the types of links the first page websites in your niche are getting. Are they easy to duplicate? Could you find a way to develop more powerful links than your foe?

      - I get a basic feel for a search volume of the niche using Google's Keyword Tool.

      - This is not a 100% true rule. But I look for Adwords advertisers with my keyword searches in the niche to get a better feel of the competition. If people are spending money to bid on this keyword, there's probably people making money off it.

      - Once I get a feel for the keywords I'm going after I like to see how sophisticated the competition is... You probably don't need to take this step since you're monetizing with Adsense only right now, but in the future who knows what you might turn these sites into.

At this point I'm checking out how much content has been developed around a specific topic along with the quality. I'm also looking for things like, hey are they building an email list, what affiliate products are they selling, are they using video, etc.

Good luck on your new sites.

If you are using google chrome
    1. go to extensions

    2. get
    - META SEO inspector
    - Chrome SEO
    - SEO site tools
    - Woorank

    3. Use them in conjunction with the following
Compare normal google result with the following:
    inurl:
    intitle:
    intext:
    inanchor:
and their 'all' versions (ie. allintitle:, allinurl:, etc.)

    4. Find out all relevant info through extensions
(PROTIP: 'relevant' means if all those sites give you similar info then it must be important! Most sites talk about backlinks, so record the data!)

    5. Run regression analysis, and ANOVA to find results; or make educated guesses using your brain.
(another PROTIP: use excel if you cant get SAS)

Extra tip: Remember, this method will only work if you have google chrome...and a brain...and maybe some prior experience with statistics

then again, ballpark estimates work just as well :|
