I am posting my first site in just a few days, and would like to know how one can get your site indexed fast in the search engines. Any one got some nice step-by-step information...

To be honest, I manage to get my new sites indexed pretty quickly (like 24-48 hours) by submitting my XML sitemap via Google Webmaster Tools.

But you can also usually get a page indexed pretty quickly by building backlinks to it from other sites. The higher the PR / more authority-laden and frequently updated the site, generally speaking, the more often they're crawled by Google's spiders, and the faster any links you place will be seen and followed by them.

Some people say "pinging" the search-engines helps too, but in my experience it's not as reliable, guaranteed or swift a means through which to get indexed as the previous two techniques, all by itself.

He's right. I can usually get a site indexed in a day. Connect it to your Google Webmaster Tools Accnt. Create and submit your sitemap to Google.

Hell just Add your URL to Google

I use Fast Indexer to ping and usually do a thousand meta indexes... a Gbot is BOUND to stumble over one of them!!!

This. Exactly what I do and it works very quickly.

If you are using wordpress, you can use the Google XML Sitemaps plugin. It automatically submits an XML sitemap to the big search engines. And it submits a new sitemap every time you post new content.

Forum review posting, bookmarking, rss feeds, article submission, blog comment posting and finish it off with pinging. This should get it indexed pretty fast. You could also just go to a high PR site and purchase a featured text link with anchor text, this also works well.
