I have a site here - www.myhealthcolumn.com which gets around 180 visitors per day but i haven't had any Adsense clicks yet.

The obvious problem is, there is to many things for the visitor to click on. There is an Amazon widget, ClickBank and MarketHealth ad's but i haven't made any sales through those ad's anyway so it probably isn't worth having them on.

Do you recommend changing the WP theme of the site so ad's are positioned better? It's currently using the HeatMap theme. As it's an auto blog, im not sure which theme would be most suitable for it.

The domain fee is around $11 per year which equals approx $1 a month so id only need around $0.25 per week in earnings from it to pay the domain fee which i assume is around 2 clicks. If i had just 4 clicks per week, that would amount to around $11 per year profit if im correct.

    I checked your website and i think your template is fine. Just its better that you insert an ad block between the articles in your website too. It makes you CTR more. Now you only have two ad blocks above each article. But its better that you add another one between text of your articles too.

    Hey, your site just too 'busy' for visitors...If you go with adsense, stick to it.
    How's your affiliate sales? If nothing then just take it down.

      Ive had no affiliate sales although i only started getting around 180 visitors a day in the last week since i went on "Get in Google" in HostGator. Before that, the site was only getting around 20 visitors a day.

      Ive just replaced one of the ClickBank ad's on the right with a 300x250 Adsense block.

      Im still not sure how to add Ad sense in between the articles though.

      In the Adsense stats, it says yesterdays page impressions are 25 but according to the website stats there were 180 visitors yesterday. How does the page impressions for the ad relate to the amount of visitors?

      1) Replace the YouTube video in the left corner with a 336x280 Adsense Ad - Text Only.
      2) Replace the picture/ video on the right with a 200x200 Adsense Ad - Text Only.
      3) Get rid of the language translation application or move it out of the way.
      4) Just make sure that you have 2 Adsense Ads above the fold of your website and maybe 1 336x280 Adsense unit at the very bottom of your site.
      5) Get rid of the half banner ad in your header, because people aren't programmed to click in the very top right corner!

        Thanks for the advice.

        1) Do i replace the YouTube video on the left by putting the Adsense code in as a Post or should i add it as a widget? Im not sure if there is a widget placement for that area.

        2) Which picture/video do you mean? The ClickBank/Market Health ad's or Jenny Craig ad?

        3) Ive removed that now.

        4) When you say "above the fold", do you mean add the ad's below the header but above everything else on the site?

        5) Just removed it now.

        Yesterday's visits: 222 visits. Im moving towards 250 visits a day. So hopefully this site has some potential for adsense.

    hi your site is ok and if you are getting 180 visitors in a day then its really great. you should use different theme which allows you to post ads in between your articles.

    I personally agree with your thoughts in the first post. I find one method of monetization for each site, do some testing and see which one works best then stick with that.

      1) When I use Blogger.com I can place the code within the html using, <div> Adense Code </div>, but I don't know what type of cms you're using. You should be able to use a widget, if you used it for the Youtube video. Place the 336x280 Adsense unit below the title, "Health Tips – Healthy Combination with Chapati" and it will appear that the Adsense unit relates to the title. The reason that I'm suggesting the 336x280 size unit is because these units have been known to perform well when it comes to CTR.

      2) I'm refering to the first image on the right, which was below the translation app. Put a 200x200 - Text Only Ad, or a 160x600 Sky Scraper Ad Unit - Text Only. I would try the 160x600 text only Ad, because visitors will assume that it's the primary navigation.

      3) Mak the Title for all of the Adsense Text Ads Blue - 0000FF and the Text and Url Grey - CCCCCC and see what happens! Good job getting rid of the translation application.

      4) "Above the fold" means that users don't have to scroll down, in order to see your Ads. It's like the top section of a newspaper folded in half. You don't wan't your visitors to have to work, in order to see your main Adsense units.

      5) Goo job removing the header Adsense unit. At the bottom of your website you want to place a 336x280 Adsense unit - Text Only! The reason for this is because many visitors will view the entire page from top to bottom and you want them to have something to click on after they've viewed the entire site!

      6) Summary - Your site should contain a total of 3 Adsense units - (2 - 336x280 and 1 - 160x600) all of the Ad units are Text Only with Title - 0000FF and (Text and URL - CCCCCC).

      6) If you need any more advice, I'll try and help you the Best I can!

    I don't think that you need the Youtube video right under the 336x280 Ad unit. How about putting a few paragraphs of content, like you did for the other articles on your page? So then you'll have Title, Adsense 336x280 and content under the ad. The key to a high CTR with Adsense sites is to limit the number of choices that a person can click, while visiting your website. Example, if I give a person 12 different ads to click vs. 3 ads, then the chances of the person clicking on one of the Adsense ads decreases big time!

    The beautiful thing about setting up your site this way is that you'll have your 2 Adsense units above the fold, which will increase the likelihood of a visitor clicking the Adsense units, instead of scrolling down your site. Therefore, you make money instantly! If the visitor chooses to view your entire site, then you have an Adsense unit at the bottom that they may click on, which also puts money in your pocket!

    Would you recommend to replace the Healthy Combination with Chapati YouTube video with the Useful health tips article so that is under the 336x280 Ad unit instead? So then the YouTube video will be below the Amazon Widget instead of above it.

    The site uses a WP Robot Plugin but the main page content is the same as it was since i bought the site over a month ago so i maybe able to update the articles automatically to remove the YouTube video.

    Ive had my first click. £0.60 Not bad amount at all for 1 click. Converted to dollars that is $0.95

    I think the visitor stats for the site maybe skewed. According to HostGator here is yesterdays visitors.

    But when i click on Awstats, it says Googlebot hits 539+41 and Yahoo Slurp 445+34
    Could it be that most of these visitors are just a bot? How can i find out how many human visitors the site has had?

    Ive just checked the Adsense stats and there has been 7 clicks today - £5.03 which is $7.94

    So this revenue from just one day is almost enough to pay the yearly domain fee. If i could keep that up, it would be $55.53 a week.

    I submitted the site to about 8 social bookmarking site's earlier today. I haven't even done any article marketing yet.

        I had ONE wp site I tested with wp-robot. Within a month I lost my pagerank and the pr bar was greyed out. I immediately took it down. I never had a problem until I installed that plug-in. I'll never do things the lazy way again. I "only" make about $50 a day from adsense ($1500 a month), but I'm pretty proud of that and I don't intend to lose it.

        I know others use autoblogging software, but I wouldn't risk it

          You site the way it is currently set up will probably not get bothered because you are not making enough money for them to bother with a manual review.

          But in the meantime, if you are planning a lot of these sites or hoping for the golden $100 a day in adsense, you might want to give some consideration to exactly what you are doing.
          Would it be good idea to remove the ad on the right so there is only one ad above the fold or wouldn't this make any difference because they'd still be 1 ad above the fold?

          I don't want Google to take away my earnings so if anyone can give further clarification on this.

    1. Go to your Google Adsense account. Click on the tab that says resources.

    2. Study what is on that page. Especially the right side of the page. Take the whole day if you need to. If you want to be an adsense publisher you first need to understand what Google wants from you.

    3. Ask yourself this question. What does a visitor to my site get? Right now you are focused on what you get. Clicks and money. What does the visitor get.

    Think of your site this way. What you have right now is like tuning into a television programming and getting 20 minutes of advertisements before they give you 10 minutes of show. Would you watch that?

      Well i changed the ad layout on the advice i was given by people in this thread. There is only 3 ad blocks on the site which doesn't exceed the maximum allowed and in Google resources it actually recommends using large ad's.

      The visitor gets whatever the links which interest them brings them.

      Cooler1,
      Let's make some money! You may want to wrap text around your 336x280 Adsense unit. If you do, then follow the instructions below!

      1) Add the following code to your external Cascading Style Sheet:

      #adChooseName {
      width: 336px;
      height: 280px;
      left: 0;
      right: 0;
      bottom: 20px;
      top: 5px; float:left; padding-left:5px; padding-right:5px; padding-bottom:5px;
      font-family:Arial
      }

      Replace adChooseName with any name that you choose.

      2) Replace the existing 336x280 Adsense Code within the html of your web page with:

      <div id="adChooseName">
      Place 336x280 Adsense Code Here
      </div>

      3) By following steps 1 & 2, your Adsense Unit will wrap around the text that's currently below it. Just like the text wraps around the pictures that you've inserted below.

      A) If you need to create a CSS file then copy & paste the code below into Notepad:

      #adChooseName {
      width: 336px;
      height: 280px;
      left: 0;
      right: 0;
      bottom: 20px;
      top: 5px; float:left; padding-left:5px; padding-right:5px; padding-bottom:5px;
      font-family:Arial
      }

      B) Then name the text file "weightloss.css" or any name you choose. Make sure that you place double quotes around the file name before saving, to make sure that the file extension is .css, instead of .txt.

      C) Upload the CSS file to the same directory as your websites' index page.

      D) Place the code below within the <head> </head> tags:

      <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="weightloss.css">

      E) Now replace the existing 336x280 Adsense Code within the html of website with:

      <div id="adChooseName">
      Place 336x280 Adsense Code Here
      </div>

      Remember to put your 336x280 Adsense Code inside the <div id="adChooseName"> and </div> Tags.

      Don't change the 336x280 Adsense unit at the bottom of the page, just the 336x280 Adsense unit that's above the fold.

      Let me know if you need any more advice!

          39. That is about 34 too many in my opinion. It could be a case of death by a thousand cuts when you run that many. If you're lucky, it's one being a pig and the others are ok. To check turn them all off and add them in one at a time. If one really slows you down, than it's a culprit. If you find one that slows you down midway through, don't stop. Turn that one off and check the others as well. It could be a few of them having an impact. In all seriousness I don't think there is any reason to run 39 plugins. Performance is just one of the reasons the bigger one is security. Think of the attack surface. These are 39 freebies written by any schmoe that knows a litttle php and probably even less about php security.

    Well said in this thread about adsense in blog. I've got to note all of this in my mind and reminds me for some other ideas that could help me in the future.

      Google hates Autoblogs especially with AdSense.

          Cooler1,
          You can place the code:

          <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="weightloss.css">

          Below the <title></title> tags. These tags <title></title> will be in the top section of the html code.

          Let me know, if you need any more advice!

          In response to the autoblogs question, I think Google doesn't like when you post more than 3 times a day using autoblogging software!

            Ive done it now. Im not sure if ive put the code in the correct place though because there isn't any <title> tags in the post. I edited the post "Useful health tips" and put the code at the top of the post.

            So the code looks like this;

            <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="weightloss.css">
            <div id="adChooseName">
            Place 336x280 Adsense Code Here
            </div>

            Which html code exactly is the code supposed to go in?

          "Hates" as in you may get your site deindexed. That was my point. The site was working fine for me and making me more than a few bucks a month until I installed the autoblog plugin. Within a week my formerly pr4 site turned gray. While there MIGHT be another explanation, I don't know what it could be.

    I have been using the auto blogs for years with no problem. I also add my own articles to the site for highly targeted keywords. I also use the exact same theme that you use for my sites. Here is a brief outline of what I do.

    1.) Keyword research (two list of keywords, the first is my money keywords i.e. high AWCPC the second list is my traffic keywords i.e. low paying keyword phrases AWCPC $1.00 and below.

    2. Get domain

    3. set up auto blogging for about 30 days (while auto blogging software is running I am optimizing my pages by building backlinks i use the link wheel method which I outsource. )

    4. meanwhile outsource all list of traffic keywords usually around 100 to 200 keyword phrases depending on the niche. (I have those articles written for Unique Article Wizard)

    5. Stop auto blogging plugin (The site at this point is normally generating around 200 unique visitors DEPENDING on the niche)

    6. Add Adsense instant revenue

    7. Continue the link building process for various pages of the blog and article writing.

    That's it... This strategy has worked for me for years without fail. I have never had any problems from Google not even once.

    I hope this helps.

      Cooler1,

      <!--
      header.php
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~ -->
      <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" dir="ltr" lang="en-US">
      <head profile="http://gmpg.org/xfn/11">
      <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
      <meta name="distribution" content="global" />
      <meta name="robots" content="index,follow" />
      <meta name="language" content="en" />
      <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="weightloss.css">
      <!--
      Meta Description and KeyWords for Home Page
      ~~~ -->

      See how I placed the stylesheet tag right below the language meta tag in Blue?

      You should be able to find the tags in your html code.

      The code below will replace the existing 336x280 Adsense code:

      <div id="adChooseName">
      Place 336x280 Adsense Code Here
      </div>

      Remember to insert the 336x280 code between the <div> </div> tags. If you put the old code in a widget before, then substitute the new code into the widget.

      Hope this helps! I looked at your website and the bottom of your Adsense code seems to overlap the text.

      You may be able to solve this by changing the height and width of the code in your .CSS file.

      Example,

      #adChooseName {
      width: 346px;
      height: 300px;
      left: 0;
      right: 0;
      bottom: 20px;
      top: 5px; float:right; padding-left:5px; padding-right:5px; padding-bottom:5px;
      font-family:Arial
      }

      See, if this works!

        Cooler1,

        I just looked at your website and it looks great with the Adsense unit above the text. I wouldn't change a thing, if your CTR has improved! So, see how your site performs without wrapping the text around the Adsense unit. I think that the site looks too busy with the text wrapped around the Adsense unit. What do you think? As long at your CTR improves with the 336x280 unit above the text, then leave it that way!

    @bmonster. I edited the header.php file.

    It's worked. There was a problem with the ad overlapping the text but then i changed the height and width of the code in the css file as you suggested for the bottom ad.

    I haven't noticed any text overlapping on the bottom ad. What page is this happening on?

    Ive put it back so the text is no longer wrapped around the ad. It does look less cluttered this way.

      Cooler1,

      Now you have the knowledge to wrap text around your 336x280 Adsense unit. If you use other Adsense units you can copy and paste the same code into your .CSS file and change the width, height and name. Then insert the <div id="adName"> insert adsense code </div> into your html code and your ready to go!

      Let me know, if you have any more questions. Also, has your CTR increased?

        After i changed it to the text being wrapped around the 336x280 ad, i changed it back about 20 minutes later so the ad is above the article due to your advice.

        The CTR did increase after i put the 336x280 ad's at the top and bottom of the site and the ad on the right. But today the CTR has been low. I don't think that is due to the ad placements though.

        The top 336x280 ad, ive put the code in a widget now. The code was in a post before, that was causing the problem of the bottom 336x280 ad not appearing when a Catagory was selected.

        2 days ago, this site earned around $9.30 in one day. But the next day, the earnings were $0. That was a big drop. I think it's due to that fact, i bookmarked the site on social bookmarking site's but then the next day the site isn't at the top of lists and just gets buried beneath.
