What would ne the best search engine to check a site's backlinks?

I am not sure if it's Google or Yahoo. I am confused with the results. Please advise me.

    Use both and compare the results. Yahoo has a public tools for this: Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer

    Google has it too but not made it public. You just have to type site:http://www.yoursite.com in the search field.

      Yahoo gives a nearer estimate though still also far from real but certainly much more realistic than Google.

      Google does not reveal most of your backlinks for reasons best known to it.

      Google Webmaster tools reveals more than "Site:yoursite.com" in google search but as said above, even with its imperfections, Yahoo Site Explorer is still the nearest to reality.

      Both search engine uses different algorithms, hence both provide different results. I had used both of them but I found Yahoo! more useful and realistic than Google. Thou, Google Webmaster Central shows you accurate data that no one provides you.
      So, my recommendation will be go with Yahoo Site Explore if you don't want to sign-up any online web based tool OR Sign-up with Google Webmaster Central Tool, it is an excellent tool to fetch some important facts and figures... along with it you can also use Google Analytic to view other important stats about your website....

    I only know yahoo explorer and Google webmaster tools and blekko.com can also shows your backlinks. But all of them have some limitations and none of them are perfect.
