Hello,

What happens to backlinks I send to no-index pages.

For instance, I have a page sitedotcom/a/ this is from articles as I want to track the number of subscribers from articles. But that page has a noindex robot text as I dont want it coming up in google. Are these backlinks being wasted?

Google doesn't assign PR to pages that are not indexed. So those backlinks are not useful for SEO.

as in the total number of links pointing back to the domain.

If it is not counting the /a/ page, will it still register as a backlink for the .com?

That's not how Google works. They don't count links, they use a calculation known as PageRank that pulls data from their index and calculates a PageRank score.

The PageRank formula does not count the number of domains according to Google.

  • Google doesn't assign a page rank,if it is no index,..the back links are waste in this case..it totally depends on page rank algorithm,..which exactly gives the page rank to a site.

Those back links are not count if you put noindex code on robos.txt

So, you want people to just surf in, but not via a search engine?

    Strange.

noindex is not a guarantee of no index.

As no-index pages will no be indexed by Google, so the backlinks you have on those pages will not be counted. Because when Google doesn't index this page, how can it count the backlinks which are a part of this page?

      The .com is indexed

just not the .com/a/ (which is the same page, just with different squeeze page tracking)

But Google will crawl the pages where the backlink exists. So it will see that there are other sites pointing to the domain, even if the page itself is not indexed....

On a side note, I was pretty sure that they would not be counted, just making sure

I can't believe this has turned into such a hot thread!!?? As someone already stated, the backlink WILL count toward the total # of backlinks to the TLD. Hell, it's going to count toward the total # of backlinks to the NOINDEXed page. Yes, NOINDEX pages can have backlinks too, but what would be the purpose? To me it seems pretty pointless to build a backlink to a NOINDEX page... Unless it's some disclaimer, thank you page, or duplicate/forged content you don't want Google to see...

How did this thread turn into a conversation about PR algorithms? How the hell would Google ever consider giving a web page they don't even have in their Index a PageRank...? Really?!
