Would appreciate tips on this. I've now written 6 posts on Hub, with varied links (not too many), good internal linking, have commented on others hubs, you name it,and still I'm on 59 - which means all my links are no follow. What's going on! So frustrating.... and would really appreciate some advice from fellow Warriors.

Unfortunately, since I don't use HubPages, I really don't have any insight that can help you....except...like Squidoo, a functionality that is meant for good and to deter certain activities, IMHO, is actually counterproductive to keeping GOOD writers from contributing to the site...

(You aren't the first person to get frustrated from that....)

I do like HubPages Community though.

Do you comment on other people's hubs, ask questions and give answers, take part in their forum, and plant the occasional high-PR, context-relevant backlink to your page to attract a bit of external traffic? It may also help you to have a least one photo there, with your page's main keyword in its title.

Is it worthwhile to develop some hubpages backlinks? I'm almost at 75, but I posted a bad hub that they deleted for "self-promotion" and I'm wondering if it's even worth the trouble to maintain a hubpages account.

As of about 2 or 3 weeks ago, HubPages had actually made a post (I believe a video was included) that openly told users not to backlink.

What were you actually promoting with that hub? ....there's a thin line...and, it would be interesting to see what exact criteria they use in determining self-promotion?....(Too many links to your website? etc)....in that case, it would be nice if they had a system in place that simply told you to only post 2-3-4-etc links to your site.

I had the same problem. I just kept writing hubs and bookmarking the hubs. Now I have a hub score of 89. It took about 2 weeks to get to 75. Time helps your author rank a lot.

I posted a product review verbatim from my website with links at the bottom saying something like "blah blah check out my site for more reviews."

They deleted it and told me that if the content isn't 100% unique to Hubpages you can't have any self-serving links.

Make backlinks for it from any quality website you can. For example article directories, social bookmarks or forum signatures. You don't have other choices because you should make backlinks for it to rank high/

Yes, interesting to see others have had the same problem. Clearly, they would be out of business if people couldn't make links to them at all. However, by making it essential for people to build quality hubs with original content, and pushing them hard to work for their link, so to speak, they're in a win win - because let's face it they like having thousands of links built for them!
Will keep at it... and thanks for the help warriors...

SO Basically Backlinking to your hub will increase your rankings. Or any other web 2.0 site like squidoo, blogger etc.

My hubber score sits between 87-91 on most days. It's really simple, you just need to set aside some time here and there to work on your account. First of all, you need to write high quality hubs. Things people will want to read about. They don't even have to be promotional for/related to your website. Provide the best information you can. Then hop over to Google and search for images related to the topic that allow you to use them (generally require a link back to their site). Write a couple of good hubs then participate in the community. Ask/answer questions, chat on the forums, comment on other peoples' hubs, etc. The more you're involved, the more likely people are to read your hubs.

You'll find at some point that your hubs will sort of "top out" their hub scores and fluctuate around that score. If all of your hubs reach that point and your hubber score is still under 75, then just write some more hubs. I think it took me nearly 10-15 hubs to get my hubber score up to 75 (although I have written some purely self-promotion garbage).
