Time for Links to be Recognized

I realized that I could still have my own page on my college's website. I created a page and threw up a few links. I did what I could (linking, tweeting, etc) to get that page indexed, which I did. However, it looks like none of the backlinks are being credited (in YSE).

Any thoughts? I was under the impression that links were recognized when the page was indexed.

I would suggest that you do quality link building to promote your site and get PR rankings. These are follows:

    Article writing
    site submission
    social bookmarking
    social networking
    forum ads
    blog commenting
    press release
    blogging

    hope this helps.

Thanks. I am in the process of doing all those things. I was just curious as to how long it takes to see links, even the ones you mentioned, to be "credited."

I know it isn't a huge deal, but more just curiosity on my part.

It could be "credited" already. Just because a link doesn't show up in the results doesn't mean that it isn't already indexed. Search engines never show all the backlinks that a site has. You also need to take this into account when analyzing your competition. So don't spend anymore time worrying about when it will be indexed and what you can do. You're better off just building more backlinks.

You could try link indexing, which is very powerful.

There are services like Backlink Energizer that will point tons of web 2.0 clusters at all your various links with blog posts and RSS feeds to get them indexed a lot faster.

If you don't feel like messing around with software like this, I know a guy who can do it for you.

BACKLINK INDEXING SERVICE - Case Study Site from Page 15 to Number 1 ?

Basically you need backlinks to your backlinks. It's a pain, I know, but if your links are obscure you can't rely on getting credit from them without a little extra juice.
