There's probably no difference. What little difference there might be is totally negligible.

Focus on an efficient in site linking structure with plenty of content and thousands of quality, relevant backlinks.

Domain extensions do not really matter if a decent SEO has been initiated. An extension is just an extension. What matters is how you are ranked in SERPs.

      Well, yes and no.

If you are referring to generic TLDs I agree (and yes, the topic starter mentioned such domains), but if someone is thinking of whether to chose a country specific domain for global site, then I can't agree. It does matter, but of course it's possible to rank a country specific TLD too, it's just harder. In such a case the TLD selected do matter.

  • It doesn't matter that it is .net or .org both are equally important,it all matters how you rank in serp of major search engines..But most of the people give high importance for .org rather than .net..

.org seems to be better for ranking but .net is REALLY close. If you can get one cheaper for the other just go for that one.

I would go for the .net given the choice, but would have no problem running with .org. It is the perceived value of having a .com, .net etc rather then some of the newer domains, as far as SEO goes I have had success with all of them as on and off page optimization is going to get you on the front page, not the domain name itself. If you are able to get keyword(s) of yours in your domain name, do it, I know Yahoo seems to place more emphasis on domain name then Google seems to.
    thanks,

It doesn't matter. But since you've asked, a lot of gurus will tell you to buy domains in this order:

            .com
            .org
            .net

If it's not available with those extensions, don't buy the domain. (Of course, if you're in the UK, then a .co.uk is an option too.)

Like google.ca for example. Funny. I guess google did not get

Twas merely a poke of fun to my neighbors to the north.

But you did mention how an extension sounds...

While it probably doesn't matter between .com, .net and .org, anything else just sounds, and more importantly LOOKS, quite spammy. (I'm looking at you, .info)

The only real value in a .info is when you're creating a quick seller page to use in a eBay listing for a quick spot of GA tea. Nothing else.

Either will do fine for SEO but you might want to choose the one with the best traditional use.

      .org
Is used by organisations, groups, events, non government, charities and services.
used primarily for free services, products, information held by the above categories
they are highly regarded by search engines more than .net because of the charity factor.

      .net
Primarily used by internet companies or networks, developers, designers etc.

Does either of these match your purpose for the site?

As previous posters have said, there is very little difference. Having said that, though, I try to get my domains in the following order:

      1 .com
      2 .net
      3 .org

Don't worry too much about whether it is a net or an org (or even a co). The main thing is to make sure that you do great onpage SEO (this is easy and there really is no excuse for not getting it right), and also make sure
you get good quality backlinks pointing back to your site (this is a bit more difficult).

Also, it is extremely important to put excellent content onto your site. Make sure it is unique, relevent, and it gives the user what they are looking for.

      Good Luck.
