Google Doesn't Like You.

In my opinion, people worry too much about google penalizing them for link building.

WHY?
If artificial link building makes your site plummet to the depths of google sandbox hell, why isn't the "Kill Your Competition With Thousands Of Suspicious-Looking Backlinks" industry booming?

Because, you would be helping them in the long run.

Eh. I guess. If it made a huge negative impact, there would be companies cropping up everywhere trying to sell "Kill Your Competition With Backlinks" packages.

      This isn't happening.

The logical conclusion is that mass amounts of backlinks has little-to-no negative impact on rankings, and this idea is something that people dreamed up as they experienced the Google Dance or when their site didn't immediately hit the first page of google for "dog training" after they submitted that one article to EZA ("that super guru over their told me it worked!!")

You can never read Google don't even try. Just go about trying to rank your articles, and blog posts on the first pages of Google and naturally build backlinks in the process. Or building your online business in general.

Google ownly cares about Google. You will go crazy trying to figure out the inner workings of their company. Just concentrate on driving traffic, and making money.

    Let Google worry about Google!

People should just worry about building sites that have value, and letting people know about them. If you give them value, they will come.

Lot's of backlinks won't do any long term harm at all, in fact it will be very beneficial to your website.

Sometimes people create thousands of low quality backlinks, this has been known to sandbox peoples websites for a short period of time (especially for a newer site) but over time it always comes back to where it was (or better) than before, which is why it is pointless to try to kill your competition with backlinks.

I just see a lot of people worrying WAY too much about backlink quality. I wanted to go through the thought process logically of why more backlinks is never really a bad thing.

EDIT: Quality backlinks are always, Always, ALWAYS better than higher quantities of terrible backlinks. Also, what raradra said.
