Keyword Tool CPC estimates vs actual

So I'm looking at keyword tools cpc estimates and they are $.05 for all of my keywords. Of course I'm thrilled to see that.

Then I go and setup my adwords campaign, enter $.05 for my bids and get messages saying "off first page" or something to that effect and recommended cpc $3.00 for some keywords and $1.75 for others. Does anyone know what's up with this? Thanks.

    Hi Paul,

    CPC estimates in the Google Keyword Tool arn't that useful IMO.

    If you want to see if a keyword is competitive, type it into Google for your country and check how many ads there are.

    If there are 8 ads, you arn't getting on the front page for 0.5 cents

    Same goes for high CPCs, they are often off and don't take into account Quality Score.

    Also sometimes Google estimates ridiculous numbers for first page which you don't pay and your ads still show, it sometimes does this with no other ads.
