Wonder if somebody can explain how backlinks are counted. For example, if you've posted on a forum with your signature containing keywords three times, would it count for 3 backlinks or just 1 if it's from the same page/thread. Or if you've commented on somebody's blog twice, would it be 2 backlinks or just 1. Thanks.

What if you leave 3 blog comments on one post but use a different link - then they'd count as one each wouldn't they?? But just one link for each backlink pointing to the same site, is that right?

If you use a different link to different pages, they'd count as one each. But if all are pointing to the same site with the same keyword text, it will again count as one link but the link juice passed will be 3 times more than 1 link.

If you use different keyword text for the same article, link juice passed will be more. But the keyword vote will count as less. You are less likely to rank for those keywords with those links because your efforts are divided.

It will take some more time for Google to rank you for all these keywords. Not impossible... Very possible but it will take more links and more time for that.

If you have 3 blog comments and the link is pointing to only one site then yes it would still count as one backlink. This has something to do with I.P diversity.

I think it would still counted as one backlink no matter how many keyword you place in your signature.

Thanks for this valuable information. If 1 backlink will be counted for 1 page, then is there any point in submitting many keywords in the signatures?

I think it's better to have different sites with different keywords instead multiple keywords for same site.

That depends... Why do you want the backlink counted? Google doesn't have any counter placed to count the no. of backlinks a site has. Yahoo does.

Yahoo counts it as just one link per page no matter what keyword you are targeting.

Lets say you are trying to optimze your website by baclinking. And your site is www.abc.com

If I place a link with anchor text as ABC, it will count as a vote for abc.com for the keyword ABC.

But if you place another link with anchor text as CBA for abc.com, google wil also count that vote.

This will make your rankings slow if your backlink anchor text is divided. It is better to optimize one keyword for each page and build backlinks to it.

I'd suggest against having more than two links to the same page on a given page/article. There's nothign wrong in doing that if you are using the same anchor text. But if you are using different anchor text, the keyword juice will go divided.

Link juice will pass 100% though.

it's all a bit difficult to understand. But you will understand it as you go.

Links on three different keywords on a forum post will be counted as three links from a single page.

It will count 3 backlinks if you provide links of different pages. Otherwise its 1 only.

Pretty much, if the urls are pointing to the same page, then only one will generally be counted.
If you are pointing to different pages on the same site, well that would really depend on which way the wind is blowing (mainly how valid the search engine thinks they are).

If you had a different site+url in each link, they'd all be counted (and this is usually the best way to go!)

I think three links on one page will be counted more than one link and less than three links. I mean the value of them is more than one backlink and less than three ones. Its just my idea.

hi, I think these three links are counted differently. If they are posted with different keywords and with different URL.
