Hello everyone. I am in the process of building a landing page/site for an ebook that I am trying to market. The .com domain name that I want is already taken . Is it a good idea to use a domain that ends in .info or .net? Will it effect sales ? Do people take it less serious than .com?

for a landing page i personally like .info but it honestly doesnt matter as long as the url is keyword rich

It use to be a big no-no to use anything except .com, .org, or .net but times are changing. There are plenty of successful sites using .info and I've used it on a few of my own sites.

As long as your SEO, and everything else, is good then you'll rank and get traffic.

I think at the end of the day it all boils down to seo and popularity not the domain extension. IMO I believe .com and .org keyword domains seem to rank faster though.

I'd go with .net personally. .info doesn't really interest me much.

From my experience, .net is better than .info , but .info is cheaper and more emd's are available with .info.

  • .net .org and .edu have some weight age in Google where as .info is less than .com,and have less visibility,..It is better you use .net rather than .info..only that i can suggest..I think .org,.net and .edu ,keywords will rank faster compare to others..

Personally, I'd go for .net for the credibility side, it is very common and I think more people will trust this over .info.

For SEO, .net has been proven to be better than .info several times by many people (considering all things are equal). But, there usually isn't much in it and you would only need to create a few extra backlinks to overtake a .net so I wouldn't factor SEO into it.

Just go with what looks/sounds better for your site (.net)

There should be no difference in choosing a TLD. whether it's .com,.org, .net or even .info. It's only perception. People have come to expect a .com for business and .org for their original purpose organizations. What you have to think about is how your customers are going to access your site. If they are going to type in your company name into the URL bar and hit enter, then getting the .com domain is a must. But if you can brand your site with the .net or .us and get people used to using that, it won't matter. Another solution is to use the TLD as part of your entire corporate name.

Maybe they have the same value but i suggest you to register .net first and if you can't do it, register .info one.

Well, at least this one is a bit different than the 1000's of other threads on this topic.

You may want to take the time to search for those other 1000+ threads on this topic.

My thinking is that it doesn't matter for SEO purposes unless you're going up against a well established .com. In that case, the .com will have a strong advantage due to domain age and links, not the domain extension. If the .com is unavailable but is undeveloped and parked, then you'll have the advantage provided you do the SEO work.

For branding purposes where you'll be doing something other than SEO or PPC advertising then having the .com is an advantage although the general public is becoming more accustomed to seeing other domain extensions. You can thank domain speculators who hold choice .com domain names 'hostage' for a huge 'ransom' that cause business owners to seek less expensive alternatives for this.

Using a .info will negatively impact sales in a few narrow niches like Internet marketing where, unfortunately, the majority have a pathological science type view of anything other than a .com.

For the general public, there doesn't seem to be any impact. Some of my best earning Adsense and affiliate sites are on .net and .info domains. One of my better digital product sales sites in on a .info.
