well i have narrowed down to two keywords both don't have domain names

keyword one gets :22,200 global monthly searchers
Payed traffic : very little
the key word inside quotes produce 496,000 results

Keyword two gets :1,900 global monthly searchers
Payed traffic : twice as much as the 1st one
the key word inside quotes produce 185,000 results

as mentioned both dont have domain names registered yet for that specific keyword
also for keyword one (22,200 global monthly searchers and 496,000 results) there is very good authority site on page one which does have killer content but its paid adds are half of keyword two.which means keyword two has no good authority site but does have more paid adds

so which one should i target as my main keyword

thanks in advance
cheers

I agree with tamilseo. Only both keywords? You can rank both keywords at the frontpage of Google.

What are the top ten sites like? Which one would be the easiest to beat the top ten and get a good ranking.

Why confused yourself, just used both of them, since they are both your niche keyword.

    Hi Asanga,

I have a different opinion than common. I would suggest you to select only one keyword after a strong keyword research. This helps you to focus on one project at a time. Now coming back to your question. There are some other factors which you have to take in consideration before taking any decision.

    1) What is allintitle:"keyword" saying?
    ---- My Formula------
    Extremely easy – <200
    Easy – 700
    Doable – 1500
    Not the easiest – 3000
    Could be Tough – 5000
    Difficult – 10000
    Don’t Waste Your Time >10000
    --------------------------

    2) How many links do your competition have?

    3) Do you have a budget and time to build that much of backlinks?

    4) If you ranked first you will only get 40% of visitors. Are you happy with it?

Don't build a site for the sake of availability of domain, answer above question and take your own decision.

    Best luck

Are these monthly count searches in "exact phrase"?
This matters a lot when trying to get the real number of monthly searches.

Why don't you simply get both domains. Build some content and see which one rises fast up the search engines.

Install Google analytics to monitor the amount of traffic you get from both sites. Then you can focus more on the site which brings in most traffic and revenue for you.

for the 1st keyword allintitle:"keyword" comes up to 4,680 sites
for the 2nd keyword allintitle:"keyword" comes up to 9,480 sites

and yes these are monthly count searches in "exact phrase"

i think i should go for the 1st keyword even though it has more paid ads.plus it doesnt have the authoritative site i that shows up when you type in the 2nd keyword.

    so what you guys think

I would agree that getting both and build them out. the longtail keywords are more targeted and higher probabiblity of wanting to purchase something with less competition.

I think they're not actually exact phrase traffic counts and you could be going for keywords that might not get any exact phrase traffic. Finding an exact keyword phrase that gets 20,000+ monthly searches and still has a domain name available would be harder to find than a winning jackpot lottery ticket.

I will take a wild guess that you are using the Google keyword tool and entering this into the box: "exact phrase"

That won't give you the correct results. Search for the phrase without the quotes. Once you see the results for that search, look on the sidebar on the left-hand side of the page. You will see three checkboxes: Broad, Exact, Phrase. Broad will currently be selected. Uncheck Broad and select Exact. The results should auto-refresh and now you will see what the exact phrase traffic really is and more realistic about what kind of traffic you can expect. [EDIT]I forgot to mention this since I assumed this has already been done (my bad): Identify which keyword could most likely provide you with the best benfits as a person who need to earn income from your chosen moneytization methods, i.e. the "buyer", "signup-er", "ad click-er" or "CPA doer" keywords. Target viewer group research and behavioral analysis to identify the most likely things running in the minds of your target audience as well as what they want while they're browsing for information/advice/content relevant to your content/products/services and their needs/problems will be helpful.[/EDIT]

In such a situation, I will identify the Google PR of both the page and the domain of the top 10 results after using each keyword on Google without quotes. Then, the domain age of each result. Afterwards, the number of backlinks of each domain and page. At this point, the Google PR of the sites and pages where those backlinks are posted. Why? These are the pages and domains I need to outrank. People do not usually search keywords enclosed with quotes, so the top 10 or 20 results for their searches would be my top competitors. Searching keywords with quotes would give you the sites and pages actually competing for the keyword, and if I wanted to know the domain age and Google PR of both the page and domain of the top 10 or 20 results after those enclosed with quotes keyword searches, then I could do that, too. I'll also note what I read (have lost the link though) from an interview with Matt Cutts about domain names: With all else equal like DNS info, server IP, IP location and domain age, a "audiobookstore.com" domain will rank higher in the eyes of Google than a "audiobooksforsale.com" domain even for a "audio books for sale" keyword search. My inference is: Since both domains are new, "audiobookstore.com" looks like a better resource for audio book-related topics than "audiobooksforsale.com", which looks spammy and its only utility being a place to buy audio books, unlike "audiobookstore.com" which looks like a site providing updates, relevant information and a point of sale for audio books, so that's a better resource than the other one, though this is only my opinion since Google does not publicly state their exact crawling, indexing, domain name ranking and search engine ranking algorithms.

Its better to go for both of them. When one of them generate good results then focus that one more.

I agree with experts answer but if you target both keyword than you will be difficult to rank second keyword in comparison of first keyword because on first keyword has less competition than you can rank easily or less effort in SERP with first keyword.

I suggest you to choose both of them but if you should choose one of them, IMO keyword one is better that the second one. Also you can find better keywords too and don't limit your choices to these two keywords. There are other good keywords too and you can find them easily.

The one with the smaller search volume is down in the micro nigh site sort of volume, probaly easier to rank for, and the paid traffic implies it had good commercial intent. You certainly want to be sure to examine the google keyword results local (U.S.?) results for exact match, probably a few hundred a month for the smaller volume case.

These are not closely related enough related to both appear in the same search result? There's a certain satisfaction in getting 2 different results on page one, and pushing a competitor off the page.
