Hi - I'm quite inexperienced with anything IT but do have basic computer skills to get by everyday using email, browsing etc.
I am very interested in learning more and the time is now because I have a website selling my designs (almost finished) in vintage soft furnishings mainly cushions.
I do the backend of my website uploading, adding text etc but it's quite simple.
I don't want to fool myself so I'm just asking very seriously if I would be out of my depth by doing my own google adwords campaign.
I am sure I could not do an SEO but the little bit of adwords research I have done seems to have me quite enjoying the situation.
My thought is do I have the time - time away from producing my items is money and I honestly do not know how involved an adword campaign is.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, also am I heading down the right track doing and adwords campaign and SEO to help get my product out there.

It honestly doesn't matter how you decide to drive traffic to your website, they all work!

If you do your homework, and try to find some people who are doing very well at adwords to mentor you, either personally or a WSO etc, then there is no reason you will not succeed with your website.

If you have decided that Adwords is for you, then go for it. Everyone has their own area they specialize in, and will swear that it is the best method!

Maybe when you have made lots of money through adwords, you can pay someone to get your site ranking in Google, and get the best of both worlds!

    Good Luck

    Dave

Thank you - every bit of information to me is very helpful, yes I am keen to do this, but having a bit of a unique item to sell being vintage does this make it more difficult for me than say selling chocolate?

Hi! You mentioned you're new, so I assume you're new to online advertising and Internet marketing. Do you have relevant experience in offline marketing and print/radio/TV advertising? I for one would not at this early stage, considering if I were new to online advertising and Internet marketing and do not have relevant experience in offline marketing and radio/print/TV advertising, implement search advertising campaigns using Google Adwords nor any search advertising program from any online search engine company. If I do however want to do this because I believe it could possibly increase traffic and sales for my business, I would consult reputable firms with PPC expertise so they could study my business and see if online search advertising campaigns are indeed a good fit for my business in terms of increasing traffic and sales. I see this as a better way to spend minimal amounts of time and money than implementing something which I do not have relevant expertise in which costs time and money. I'd most likely end up spending a lot less money consulting these firms than doing this off the bat on my own. Just my opinion though.

      Oooooooo!!!
I know I'm time poor so I really have to way this up.
It looks exciting but I would probably blunder my way thru and take up too much of my precious time - there's only one of me and as much as I'd love to give it a go you are saying the right thing at this stage of my business trying to launch.
Can u then please advise what sort of money is required for an Adword Campaign?

I'd recommend at least 500-1000 dollars of risk capital to test and optimize your site.

Are you selling your own products? If so, adwords is a good place for you.

As an affiliate, you should probably avoid Google adwords. They dislike affiliates using their network. And they also dislike aggressive list building, so squeeze pages are in most case, out of the question, unless you can very carefully optimize it for conversions while also having tons of good content.

        Either way, good luck.

  • Do not depend solely on adwords. As it is easy to get traffic to your site from it, it is also easy to just be loosing money through it if the ads are not converting. Of course, adwords provide an easy way to get visitors to your website if you don't want to learn the rigors of SEO. Gut I believe that there is nothing that cannot be learned. hile you are into adwords, also take time to learn the basics of SEO. It will help you a lot. Even in adwords, the knowledge of SEO can help you a lot. SEO knowledge makes you get targeted visitors to your adwords campaign and improves the conversion. Try SEO as well and you would see that it could be full of fun with time.

Anyone like to mentor me thru this? I think my website is good - selling unique rather than middle of the road items! I's fairly original - made and designed in Australia by me.
If anyone can help me thru this as a complete learner and guide me in 'layman' terms as such I'd really like to give it a go.

  • Of course, you can find people that are ready to help you here. One thing is that we keep learning everyday. You cannot learn everything in a day. The internet is changing daily, the search engines are also changing constantly and internet marketers are also changing their strategies in order to meet the needs of the search engines.

To start, go through this forum and look for threads that some other people are asking questions. There, you will see a lot of ideas about internet marketing and SEO that will be of great help to you. In some areas, people are of different views because of different situations they encountered. However, you will learn a lot there.

Another thing is that, depending on your resources, read reviews and buy some WSO or some Clickbank products related to SEO. You cannot learn everything in a day. Put whatever you learn to practice. Do some trial and error. You will make mistakes sometimes but it is part of learning.

      Ok thanks much appreciate.
I'll read till I'm read in the face no prob!! So just to be a bit more precise my website is selling product I design and make, it's sitting like a dead duck cause I haven't done anything in regard to SEO or adwords.
I don't think I can handle an SEO at this stage and I'm sure adwords is challenging but I want to learn......so to get me in the swim would I start concentrating on learning adwords to benefit my website at this stage?
Will I be doing things the right way around ?- if there is such a thing!

  • You can still get books on adwords that teach SEO as part of it. The SEO part helps in order not to just be wasting money through adwords. I would recommend a book called "Beating Adwords". The book discusses everything from A-Z about adwords and how to make money with it applying some SEO tactics.

Adwords is fairly simple and quick to set up, but just beware that you are actually generating profitable leads from it. It is rare that someone jumping into adwords for the first time actually makes it profitable.

I know I lost a lot of money the first time and then I kept breaking even for a while, until I finally figured out how to place my ads so that they became profitable campaigns.

SEO is less risk in my opinion, however it takes time, and time is money. Even hiring someone can take time to really see any results.
