Hi Guys,

Just wanna gather some feedback and opinions on which of the offsite SEO link building strategies/techniques work the best for you and some of your other comments.

1) Which is/are the ones working the best for you?

2) Which are easier to implement and do not take up too much time?

3) Which are the no-brainer, must use techniques to be used to be successful in pushing the website rank up?

Any other advices you wish to give?

Cheers,
Lester

I mostly work on creating more and more content, much of which contain links on a variety of sites including:
    1. my own sites
    2. blogs I created on other sites
    3. forums
I also do link directory submission on a semi-regular basis.

My site did better after I started submitting articles in directories and being an active member in several well ranked forums, that's easy and don't cost you much even if you hire another person to do that

I've gotten a few of my sites within the top 5 of google, and two to #1 for my main keywords by simply using Angela and Paul's backlinks. Maybe 2-3 month's worth of backlinks using those guys have worked amazingly. I feel 100% confident when I start a new business that using their techniques I can get to the top of Google, even for tougher keywords.

    Hope that helps.

I would say that for maximum bang for the buck - profile links

They can be outsourced cheaply and stick nicely. Just make sure you get them indexed afterwards

By reverse engineering others sites' backlink profiles who are commenting on a high PR blog. I go into more detail on this process in this thread:

SEO Spyglass tells you. Or you can download a firefox plugin called NoDoFollow, and that will tell you as well.

An editorial, or contextual, backlink is a link that comes from the context of a site, not its periphery, such as blog comments (peripheral to the blog article), forum profiles (peripheral to the threads on that forum), blogroll links (peripheral to the content on the site).

Contextual links have been shown to be much more powerful than non-contextual links, and this shows Google can tell the difference between Darren Rowse recommending your site in his blog post vs. you posting a comment on Darren Rowse's blog with your URL in it. They can tell the different and appear to allocated link juice accordingly.

          Hey Brandon

Very insightful sharing! Really appreciate that!

Understood (I think) the part about contextual links. But how do we go about getting the contextual links? Seems like we might need to "buy" from the blog owners?

          Cheers,
          Lester

Then at the end of the year you'll have lots of backlinks.

John Williamson has the right idea:

"Article marketing and high-PR forum profile backlinking, both of which can be outsourced."

I have all my backlinking outsourced because I simply dread it...it's super boring. And why not pay a VA $2-$3 dollars per hour to do all the tedious work? I Love My VA...you know what I'm gonna make a T-shirt that says that.

btw I use oDesk and I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the spontaneous participation in this thread! Indeed, content is king and we will definitely need to have relevant (if not great) content to do well in rankings. It seems to be true for most of you who have commented here, that article marketing is the best form of backlinking technique.

Having said that, complementing it with a series of other techniques such as social bookmarking, blog commenting, forum posting will do wonders for your site ranking as well.

I guess no one has mentioned about document submission?

    Cheers,
    Lester

Interesting suggestion from SEOMoz today that partial match anchor text could be more beneficial than exact match anchor text - which would make sense as it looks more natural. Based mainly on a survey of SEOs indicating what works for them - so not an official source by a long way...

PS - first post so I can't give you guys the link - Google "partial match anchor text" and the second result (currently!) is a post entitled Early Ranking Factors Data + an April Linkscape Update - the info is in there.
