Ok so I just started submitting my articles to a few sites, and have a couple of videos up. All of them filled with the keyword that I'm using. Heres the thing, I'm on the first page of google(an article and one video) when I type in my keywords with the quotes around them, but without the quotes I have no idea where it is. Is this info helpful at all? Should I be going about my keyword research different?

You know that you are at least indexed

Here are some ways to check your ranking without the quotes:

If you are showing up for the quoted versions it means that you are doing something right. Use the inanchor:keyword query and if your site shows up then Google likes what you are doing with your site.

It totally depends on the keywords you have used..if you have used keywords in quotes then they'll be shown above otherwise not as someone else might be working for those keywords..

these are different way of getting results, with quotes it gives result used as exact as in your case but without it we get results more popular who have used the same keyword but in phrase.

very few people say 5% approximately search the keywords with quotes to get relevant results.
Otherwise, most of them just type the keyword in search engines and check the results one by one.
Therefore, I think you should try to target and compete broad match keywords and competitors.
