I decided to set up an adwords campaign a few hours ago. The ads were approved but they're not showing.

This is the reason "the keyword phrase doesn't trigger any of your ads"

does anybody know how I can fix this?

Yes buddy you will need to find some more keywords that do generate enough search terms so that it does fire up the system.

Go into add more keywords option (from each ad group) and look in the box on the right, if you see any keywords that best describe your product / service add them to your current keyword list.

From there once you do find some that fire you may want to remove the on effective keys to clean the system up.

dzoaffiliate is correct, DKI will definitely help improve relevance. However, you have to be pretty careful with this especially if you are buying into competitor terms.
