Hey All,

very quick question. Im just wondering roughly how many links should one build to a new site with a new domain etc...?

Im thinking if I build around 500 per month I should be fairly safe in terms of being sandboxed.

thanks

This depends on a number of factors.... But, thinking in terms of how many links I'm going to build is a bad idea in my opinion...

You should think about link building as a marketing activity and the links you get from it are the reward of your efforts...

Change your mindset from being a link builder to a website marketer and I guarantee you'll see better more stable results long term...

When I say marketing activity I mean building relationships in your market and promoting your high quality content to them...

...I mean getting press releases distributed far and wide to get exposure for your site...

...I mean building up a social media presence, again utilizing relationships, while providing excellent content to your marketplace...

Not the norm like most people approach this...

Depends on your market, but SEO is my opinion is not about the mindset of "manually building 500 link to my site per month"...

This thinking prevents you from getting the maximum exposure and links to dominate your market...

    As many as you can.

Who cares if you get sandboxed? If you keep building backlinks you'll come out stronger then ever.

Just keep building and building and building and building, right now while I type this I have three programs pointing at my site, building backlinks

To be honest, 500, to me, is a bit overkill - I'd say just comment on a few blogs, write a few articles in high PR article directories and then wait a bit before doing anything more - it always takes time for things to get done with the Gdance so you may as well just work on actual content at that time instead of worry about backlinks - give people a great reason to stay and share your site and you don't have to worry about link buildings as much.

      Hi,

Been part of the forum for 7 months. I wanted to try to help out. I been to silent.

You should be very careful when building backlinks.

If it's new site, you want to build links slowly.

In the beginning the focus is to build trust with google.

You want to focus on links that can help you build trust,

like PODcast links, PAD Software links, .EDU links

When google trust your site is easier to move up the serps

I couldn't agree more. Sure you can throw backlinks out left and right but initially and eventually your site will come up where you want it. Or the flip side, it will show number 1 for a while then you'll never see it before page 10 again.

Your initial month, build your links slow, no more than 100 that first month. After that Google "trusts" your site per say then you go wild with the RSS feeds, etc. etc.

        Regards,
        Clint

Yes, by all means. Build slowly. We don't want the competition.
Build them very, very slowly. That way you won't even have to worry
about turning a profit until 2015, and we will never have to worry about
your site competing with any of ours. (If they are in the same niche)

Use the protection charm while you're link building if you're worried about being 'sandboxed'...

500 Links per month is not enough, if you to rank your website you should double you out put, 300 quality back links per week is good.

I've built thousands of links to a brand new site in a month and ranked well. I didn't ensure they were all indexed so Google found them as they weaved around the web--which is fine by me.

Fear the "dance" with Google and you are going to have a long road ahead of you. Steam roll yourself ahead with confidence and you'll be find.

Well, it is up to you. You can create back links as many as you can. You can hire a link builder if you want.

500 per month will be fine. I've done it many times before with no problems, so you shouldn't either.

    However, it comes down to these factors for me;

-link momentum/velocity (Google dance seems to exist more if you can't create links for an ongoing period)
    -link diversity
-link quality - link quality is usually done by manually creating links. Most auto softwares have been oversaturated by millions of people and Google discounts the links if it sees a spammy pattern.

As people said above, to run a successful SEO campaign you have to remember that quality counts. Spend time in forums and places of interest to your targeted traffic. Build up followings and build authority.

This will help you improve visitor count and quality.

Build Backlinks as much as you can. It's doesn't matter how fast you have got backlinks, It's all about how fast you're loosing them.

Just keep the speed with you are building links constant. If that remains stable then no matter how many you build in a month...you would not have to worry.

Hi, backlinks work as a backbone of a website. Why are you limiting your backlinks in a target. I would say gather as many back links as you can to generate traffic and to make a good reputation over search engine. it will definitely help you for deploying services from your website.

I don't suggest making more than 400 backlinks for a new site for first months. And also be careful about the quality of backlinks.

I was told that if you submit your site to social bookmarking site's it counts as a backlink.

I submitted my site to Reddit and Del.icious but when i view the site with SEO Quake, it doesn't show anymore inbound links than it did before under L: and LD: Why is this?

There are no instant backlinks if the links are not recognized yet. It can take
quite a while. Finding the page indexed does not mean the link has been counted
either. Google ignores many links on many pages. Just check how many sig links
of yours are counted here at the WF, even though all pages are indexed.

Some social bookmarking sites are nofollow, like digg, and won't really count anyway.

The insanity over backlinks will never end.
