How long does it take for you to see results?

I started some SEO work on my keyword around 3 weeks ago using external help in the form of a company I found on Elance. They have done a load of link building, article writing and forum posting but we have not yet moved one position in Google.

How long does it usually take to see results?

That all depends on the keyword you are trying to rank for. If you selected a highly competitive keyword, it may take a while. On the other hand, if you selected a keyword with very little competition, you can rank on the first page of google in as little as 2 weeks.

  Does this apply to all search engines? For example, the same keywords, have good result in yahoo, but can not even found in google? Please advice, many thanks!

  Because, Google's and Yahoo's algorithm is different thats why you are seeing different result.
  
  So you have to optimize for Yahoo also and you have to know what Yahoo wants.

The keyword is "meet new people". I am in the UK and currently show top of page 2. We were already here before we started paying an SEO team though. Just worried they may be ripping me off.

well I started my own niche site a couple weeks ago. It has 11 pages of content so far and each page is optimized for a different keyword. The keywords are low to medium competition and I just started building backlinks and getting each page indexed last week.

Since then I have got every page indexed and cached by Google. A couple of the pages have hit page 1 of Google so far and all other pages are in the top 100 and climbing and most are withing the top 30 positions. So I will just keep building more backlinks.

Also in the past week I have recieved just over 200 visitors now to the site from over 20 different countryes so overall I am pretty happy so far. In the 1 week so far I have made $1.30 from adsense (only one click so far but I will optimize it better). Also I have made 1 amazon sale too in the past week from the site and it was on a $160 product so I will get roughly $6.50 from that sale so overall I am quite happy. It is my first niche site and I am still learning but good so far. Anyway those are my results thus far.

We are number 10 in Yahoo but really going for Google results as the majority of the UK use Google.

If you had a professional real SEO company working on building links for you your site should be going through a Google Dance right now and drop a few levels in rankings. If your site is still in the same place I would figure that your site hadn't had anything done to it yet. I would request a report of the links the company did for you and verify that the work was actually done.

Agreed with turbo hips the update in google may take some time but still the seo team that was hired must not be stop in getting in high ranks there must be an update on their work.

I started seeing results within a few days, but very slow and very steady. Granted, I was in a low competition keyword. For higher competition keywords, it can and usually does take a few weeks to see any movement at all, so your situation is totally normal so far.

It sounds that the competition is pretty high. How do you know if they do not do the same things like you or they work even harder.... But just like what people say, It takes time, not an instant result...

  Sometimes it can take a while to see movement, this depends on what link populartity your website already has etc.
  
  Sometimes you can rank in 24 hours sometimes it takes weeks to see results.
  
  What type of link building are they doing, as another forum user stated make sure you request a link building report.

It really varies, sometimes I see results the next day, sometimes it takes weeks. What I've noticed is creating a consistent effort in building backlinks really seems to pay off when you compare your rank week by week.

The competition for that keyword phrase is very high, as said by a lot of people on this thread, so don't worry too much about rankings just yet. I've been competing in a competitive niche for almost 5 months now and I'm not stressing as I gave myself a time frame of at least a year. You'll see results, just not immediately. If you are worried about the SEO company you're using, I'd recommend SubmitEdge. They've done nothing but good work for me.

It all depends on your competition buddy. It could take 2-4 weeks or more or you may NEVER seen any results. The important thing to keep in mind is to NOT stop. Just keep doing seo.

This is of course considering you've got a realistic keyword in mind.

changes and updates on SERP listings happen every week. for new sites, at least 14 days before your site shows some result through Google webmaster tools.

Seo requires lots of patience.. you need to build quality content and backlinks.. wait for 2 months if the kw is medium competitive and 4 to 6 months if the kw is highly competitive..

It depends on your niche and how competitive your keywords are. The harder your keywords to crack, the longer you see desirable results.

If the competition is too high then it would take lots of time to get the result, so all it depends on the competition and nothing more than this......

Results are a function of your efforts AND your competition. If the efforts of the competition consistently exceed yours, you will never see results in terms of SERP ranking.
