Hello Warriors,

I have subscribed to an SEO course, in which it is mentioned that one of the most important SEO elements is to have your keywords in the H1 and H2 tags for each page that you have on your site.

I am running now a Wordpress site with blogs posts on my home page. I have added other pages each targeting a one keyword.

My Home page is showing my website address as H1 and all the posts titles as H2.

My other pages are showing only H2 with no H1 tags.

How can I change this to have H1 and H2 tags on each page?

    Hi Farouseh,

If you're familiar with php you can go into the Wordpress Dashboard > Appearance > Editor and then edit the 'Page Template' and/or 'Single Post' files to get the tags you want.

Another solution may be to use the TinyMCE plugin which gives you a formatting toolbar when adding a new page or post. With this toolbar you can create your own H1 and H2 headings.

This depends primarily on your theme. You can control this by editing the particular single page or post template files (page.php and single.php). Wrap the title in tags as required. (in php geekspeak the WP title is <?php the_title(); ?> (this query outputs the title). In '2010' theme for WP 3, note there is an "if" statement to check if the page is a frontpage item or not (in which case the titles are h2 wrapped instead of h1).
