I like article marketing, forum marketing, social media, and more.

There are actually dozens of methods that make sense over the long run.

Article marketing and forum posting for me. Although I'm trying to maximize the results of my backlinking efforts by trying and applying new techniques of backlinking..

Link Bait is awesome, but if no one can find your page to start with, no one is going to link to it. LOL

How do you enable them to find your link bait?

            None of the above.

I get the most bang for my buck from high PR page backlinks. Meaning backlinks from a high PR page, preferably in context to get the most bang for my buck. I have found these kind of links to be the most powerful and provide the best return for the time/money invested.

A few high PR homepage links = 1000's of forum links, blog comments, etc.

                1. Blog Commenting
                2. Article Marketing
                3. Authority Silos
                4. Press Releases
                5. Social Bookmarking Sites

Using these five is where I would spend the majority of my time. Yes there are other methods, the methods of link building above are the most effective.

For what you have forum posting and blog commenting is definitely the best. For higher quality leads you want to go for the most relevant forums and blogs of course.

Contextual link building or blogging and article marketing works for me but I think you should still need to couple this with other link building tactics.

Submitting your site at high PR directories and commenting on high pr blogs of your niche..also guest publishing helps a lot but must have quality content..

I think article marketing, if done correctly, can be one of the best. It's obviously a simple thing to do but there are ways to improve it and really maximise results.

Other than that, its hard to go wrong with blog commenting and forum profiles. You should definitely try to mix up your link building as much as possible though. Link diversity, IP diversity, and all that jazz... :p

Blog commenting is the best method
    Reasons
    1. We are getting backlinks on the pages with high PR so it gives much more boost to SERP than other methods
    2. For google it appears as if natural link building, unlike profile back linking, etc
