image AND text ads or JUST text ads?

I chose image AND text ads in my adsense settings but I'm getting some really annoyingly general image ads that are taking up all the space. Would anyone recommend ditching them and only going for text ads or are the image ads worthwhile?

Thanks

I myself prefer text ads. I think text ads can make more money for you and also you see several ads in a text ad block but each image block ad, has only one ad.

from a ppc perspective we see much better click through rates using image ads. Of course though your click through rate is only as good as your ad. Why not try using text only, then try image only, then both together (if you can - I don't use adsense) evaluate what works best for your site and stick with that option.

Everybody asks this question, and we never get any reasons. So here goes.

You want text and image, because if not, you are blocking advertisers and
some who may be paying for the highest click. If you use image, best to
have all 3 ad units in display, and choose only one for text and image.

The reason why you should only choose one ad block to show images,
is that the same image ad may show up #1 in multiple places. That looks
      kind of goofy.

The reasons for not wanting image ads are more mathematical. Depending on
the ad block size, let's say 728x90, you can get up to 4 ad units showing,
instead of 1. That way your visitor is given more of a choice.

Image ads must have a lower CTR due to the probability of being shown
ad that suits a visitor. You have 4 chances of a click as opposed to 1.

If you elect image ads, I would turn on interest based ads. At least you
have more chance at being shown an image ad that is of the visitor's interest.
      Maybe.

You have to test and let it ride for a while.

When I use image ads I see a drop in CTR but my ppc goes up.
Gotta test to see which is best.

      Also:

I think the success of using image ads are very niche dependent. Some niches simply have more related image ads than others.

If you are getting general image ads rather than ones specifically for your niche you should probably turn them off. But again, test.

That is the inherent danger of using image ads.

We can all say they "suck," but we need to give a little rationale.

A little trick to try is this. If you are getting almost zero clicks, change them
all to image only and see what happens.

On the flip side, don't ever think that adding images is going to send you to
riches. It probably won't. A lot of people think they can do better by tweaking
the text/image thing. They would be better off trying to pump up the
number of targeted visitors and cleaning up their content.

I recommend leaving the image ads on your website, as I think that it makes sense. You could try blocking those specific ads though if they are not related / don't convert. I have always wondered if image ads tend to pay better than the textual ads...

Since I switched mostly to image ads within past few mos (especially with new sites) seeing better bottom line results. Another plus is img ads make the page look more professional vs text, imo. I also believe advertisers are offering more and more image ads as time goes by, with a lot of them looking so outstanding they appear to be cool content on my pages instead of advertising.

Well this is confusing. You have to keep checking with AdSense whatever works for you - position of ads, image ads or text ads etc. So this works different for different sites.

You really should have both on their for the most exposure. There are some advertisers that will just not use text ads and you'll be missing out on some dough if you don't use image ads.

I use only text but my sites are amazon sites and so I want to sell products, not clicks. I use only the horizontal 468X60 but as I said it's because I want them to notice my products and not my adsense
