When you find a forum that has a high PR and you create a profile with a link to your site, does that mean that your link is from the high PR? My new profile page has a PR0. This confuses me. Can someone please let me know the answer to this?

Thanks,
Dianne

It depends if the link is a no follow. You can find this out by looking at the page source and doing a search for your url. If the link does not have no follow around it, then you will need to make posts within the site that point back to your profile page. This will raise the page authority of your profile page and increase the value of the link out to your website.

I am still confused because FatterMike replied saying nothing about "nofollow" and saying the profile will be a link from PR0.

I do not quite understand what you are saying that needs to be done. Would you please elaborate?

      Thanks,
      Dianne

I used to think so too but unfortunately it's not. The PR of the page where you put your link is what counts, no matter what's the PR of the homepage if you put it in a post or profile page which has a PR0 then you got a PR0 link.

This is how it works, when creating links on internal pages BOTH the PR of the internal page AND the pr of the homepage are taken into account. Of course, a link from a pr 8 homepage is more powerful than a link from a pr 0 internal page but a link from a pr 0 internal page with a homepage that has pr 8 is way more powerful than a link from a pr 0 homepage.

and the pr has nothing to do with no follow or do follow. Some sites are no, some are do, regardless, they all matter.

      Hi theseoguys.

These kind of answers are scary. You seem to imply that you are an SEO expert, by your username, avatar and signature links, however an answer such as this one gives me pause.

Surely you know there is a relationship between the nofollow attribute and the passing of PR, right? Your answer did leave me wondering.

And what about your statement: "Some sites are no, some are do, regardless, they all matter." I'm sure you must know that the nofollow attribute only applies to an individual link, or sometimes an entire page, but to a entire site? Perhaps you should clarify that just a bit.

Please understand, I'm not suggesting that you don't understand these concepts, only that your answer may create more confusion, to readers of this post, than clarification.

    Hello Warriors,

Thanks so much for explaining some of the details of backlinking. I will go about getting backlinks from as many diverse PR sites/pages as possible. With that I should be able to get higher ranking in the SERP's.

Is Matt Cutts the go-to guy for backlinking?

err no not really. If you can create links on forum type sites you will start to see a rise in your rankings. Of course you will see that your profile page is 0 or similar, but the theory is that internal pr is passed down from the higher pr home page - its called link juice and the more you get the better your rankings, but it drips slowly!

Of course there is a lot more to it than that, no follow and do follow some say it makes a difference some dont, just go for any DECENT link at your stage. Read the faq at the top of this forum

      cheers
