I Suck At Keyword Research! Need Your Expert Tips :)

Ok, so I don't flat out suck, but I do seem to have trouble with a certain type of KW research. I've been attempting some mini Adsense style of sites and generally have had good luck finding specific brand name keywords. This, however, presents the issue of one day receiving a cease and desist Email due to the branded name being used in my TLD.

I've just recently been trying to find some nice long-tail, low competition, decent traffic keywords that don't use any sort of brand name to alleviate this law breaking issue of mine. I'm struggling.

So now I ask from each of you to provide some tips to get me off the ground in finding these little gems.

For example, I recently did some research and found great keywords for a specific brand and model of electric shaver. How can I transform my efforts into finding similar types of keywords without the brand name?

Thanks in advance!

This is a good technique for general long tailed finds.

    Using wordtracker...

    1) Get Google counts for the top 5000 searched keywords over the past year
    2) Rank by least competition
    3) Take the least competitive root words and perform a search for strings that contain that keyword.
    4) Take the top 1000 results and get google counts.
    5) Rank by least competitive.

This will allow you to find some low hanging fruit that you can build some traffic on.

      4) Sort the Google keyword Tool results by Local & [Exact]

      5) I see how to trim a beard with 2,400 search per month, with very low competition.

      6) I also think the domain www.trimbeards.com is available (as of this post).

If you bought the domain above, you could then create your first page/post as How to trim a beard!

Your first page/post URL would be 100% optimized as something like:

      hxxp://www.trimbeards.com/how-to-trim-a-beard/
I really like this method. A couple of questions... Why use Chrome Incognito?

Also, I did the search for electric razor and the first result was an Amazon page. I couldn't extract any phrases in the Google KW tool. Which page did you go with?

No promotion intended, but Micro Niche Finder is the way to go.

Especially for 'small niche' blog sites. Heck, I have one I set up only a week ago with ONE POST of about 200 words of content bringing in 20-40 visitors a day, making me about $0.40-$0.50 avg in Adsense income per day. Also, in a total of about 5 days of it being on page 1, I've made about $4 on the product I am promoting through Amazon (double monetization)

Sure, $0.40 doesn't sound like a lot... and it isn't in its own quantity. However, to make this 200 word blogger blog, it required 15 minutes of work. That's right... 15 minutes of work.

Believe it or not, I actually have JUST started this method with that example above. I have since created 6 other blogs, and waiting on indexing and SEO ranking to increase. I pay my VA about $5 to build 100 PR4-PR9 backlinks to my site... and the competition is always low enough that I rank on page one easily.

How I find my keywords for this? The 'Brainstorm' button on Micro Niche Finder. This will FIND your keywords, but it takes a bit more analysis to determine which will be a good keyword and which will not. After I test a bit longer, I will be making a WSO on this strategy that is proving to be quite successful thus far.

        hxxp://www.amazon.com/Electric-Shavers-Personal-Care/b?ie=UTF8&node=3778611

The way I see it, that Amazon page is ranking #1 for a reason & Google says that page is the most relevant web page on the net for this keyowrd. So, Google will provide a list of related keywords in the GKT (Google Keyword Tool).

After you search the keyword/URL in GKT, then skip all the name brand keywords, sort by highest Local & [Exact].

Most times you can get a good start from the #1 URL in the SERPs for your root keywords. If you don't find anything good, move on to position #2 & #3 in the SERPs, & check those URLs in GKT.

Those URLs are telling you what Google thinks is the most relevant keywords for that exact root keyword we started with.

I searched the exact same Amazon URL above, without being logged into GKT.

Then I saved a screenshot + downloaded the CSV file.

Download link here & the Amazon URL shows inside the CSV.

Sometimes Google gets a little funky.
Ahhh, it worked for me now as well. Awesome!

You don't have to sell me on MNF, that's what I use now and I enjoy it. I haven't used the 'Brainstorm' button though. I'm going to give that a try.

i have a question about the micro niche finder. It seems like a great program for finding low competition high search volume keywords, but dosent the fact that 1000s of IM'ers are using it kind of completely negate its use? Wouldnt thousands of people bringing out tons of websites dominating all these small niches completely eliminate them for dominating?

I dont know if that will make sense, because i dont even know what i just said lol

As Grooby said, there ARE billions of niches.... if not trillions or more. (Think how many combinations you can arrange words into... these are each there own separate niche!)

I'm really not sure how MNF does the 'Brainstorm' button, but it gives new results every time you press the button. Which means, the likelihood of someone getting the EXACT brainstorm results as you, are very slim. Someone could find your keyword (as with ANY keyword), but that's the chance you take.... which is why I use Blogger. No fees, no risks.

Hello warriors,I am new to this forum and new to all marketing stuff. These tips are really great beginners. Most of us(noobs) struggle to find the right keyword. I think there should be sticky thread about this so people would not go around. I personally use market samurai. Sometimes it misses some keywords, you have to add the manually. However, its good software because its simple to use and have everything you need on the spot, you dont have look anything else.

Does anyone else have any tips for keyword research? What methods do you all use and what software? Do you search for exact match or phrase and what is your number of competing pages you try to stay under? What are the deciding factors for you that help you pick a "good" keyword?

Lately, I've been using Micro Niche Finder, searching in phrase match, looking for a minimum of 1,500 searches per month (50 per day), a green SOC (strength of competition) and then taking those keywords into a Google search with quotes ("keyword") and looking for 20,000 or less competing pages.

Next, I use this keyword competition tool (Keyword Competition Tool) to determine the pagerank, page authority, domain authority, domain age, and if the keyword resides within the domain, H1, title, and description.

This is my the method I've been using for finding some really focused keywords in super targeted niches. I need to spend more time checking out the backlinks of the top 10 pages in Google as well...

Look at the top 10 page one listings backlink profiles and what their anchor text is. Competing pages #'s are folly. Really its the top three to concern yourself with. Excat Match Domain Availability is a MAJOR factor at the moment - but Cutts is hinting that he's got that on the Big G Hitlist ...

but then .... backlink spam is also for 3 years now ....
