When I do site: "my post" nothing comes up, but when I just put the entire url into the google search box, the post does come up. Does that mean it's indexed?

Yes, it means that the page has been indexed, since it shows up on their search result page. Perhaps the reason why your post is not showing up with your first query is because of the number of competing pages for the search terms.

If you are doing site:yourdomain.com/yourpostpage and it shows up in Google then Google has in fact indexed your post page.

Just like what Yukon stated, try site:yourdomain.com.. It's the most reliable way to check if your website pages are indexed in Google..
