A keyword has ~3500 monthly exact searches and an average CPC of 5.74..

Should I register both the .com and .net variation of the domain to help prevent future competition?

    I don't think you'll be able to foil the competition for the keyword if someone wants to compete with you. But, registering both versions of the keyword will give you a running start. What matters most is what you do after the fact, and that will determine just how much of a run for your money any competitors can give you.

    There are simply so many variations on extensions nowadays, that having the .net is not really going to give you a monopoly over the keyword or anything.

    However, if you have the extra few dollars to blow, it certainly isnt going to hurt.

    I think that you should register a .com rather then a .net.

    The search engines, from what I heard, like to pick up .com domain names more then others.

    I might be wrong but that is what I heard.

    did the same mistake . Google keyword tool said that the search volume it's 20.000/month , in fact , after i hit the 1 place on google , noticed that there is not even close to 100/month . I only get 1 visit / day maximum

    I also registred the .com .org and .net)
