On page PR, possibly yes. Domain page PR and internal page 0, most likely not much.

Yes, from the raw domain http://domain.com

    PR8.

Would it really jack a site up, if its in a fairly easy niche?

Honestly speaking I think it would be pretty substantial however you do need to maintain at least some link velocity just throwing 1 PR8 link at it and waiting for it to skyrocket to #1 might not be the best strategy.

I believe you should have many high PR backilinks for the things to start happening.

it depends... e.g. if your site is on 8 position and you get a link from site with PR2 in top3 you should get more link juice than from PR5 link from site not related to your niche.

Remember that PageRank is on a logarithmic scale, probably somewhere near a base-6 scale. So a PR8 link, under that measurement, would be as valuable as 6 PR7s, or 36 PR6s. The homepage of Ezinearticles is a PR6.

In other words, yes, a PR8 backlink would do wonders for your rankings for that link's anchor text.

Do you think that I should link "naked" or do it with anchor text?

Like if my site is FatDogChow.com, should I make that the clickable text?

      I feel its more natural..

depends on the link's placement and anchor text used. If it's placed on the homepage, near the header with your exact keywords used, then it's definitely a huge help for your rankings, especially if the link is also seen on the linking site's other pages (like blogroll).

But what if the PR8 page is no follow, would that still be good and help boost ranking?

No follow link will just increase your SERP.

    Base on the PR calculation,
    x1 PR8 = x2,795,522 PR1

The site is not related. I dont really care abotu PageRank. What are your thoughts on SERPS. Will it help me?

I was thinking of linking it to a throwaway site that links to me, like a squid page...

    Thoughts?

I would heavily recommend not doing this. Why would you dilute the sheer power of a PR8 link by linking it to a buffer site? Link it straight to your money site!

If you also have some lower PR links linking to your site, you will see your PR increase for sure, according to my experience, a PR5 page (make sure the site which links to you is also of great importance in google's eyes) will make a PR0 one into a PR4 one. But in order to get PR5 or above, you need to do more, not only linking a high PR page, the higher the harder.

I don't think that should be a valid fear.

Google doesn't penalize you for high PR links. If that were the case, I could buy a high PR link for my 3 competitors and rank #1 in no time.

The worst they can do is devalue it completely.

If you get many pr8 backlinks (without any relevancy) , you may get penalized for some link spamming. Rather try to get backlinks from many page rank websites like pr0, pr1 etcfrom quality and relevant websites. Then it look more natural for the search engines.
