Hi Warriors

I cant seen to find this exact answer anywhere, Does video marketing also give you decent backlinks to your site?

You get the link in the description of the video, does this give a good backlink, and will 100 videos in youtube give you 100 backlinks?

    Videos are not backlinks.
    Youtube is not backlinks.

Youtube can generate traffic. Just google how to optimize them and
    max out your youtube channel.

So from a purely SEO veiwpoint, i'm getting the feeling that videos don't give you backlinks to help with SERPs.

Thanks Guys, I'm concentrating on SEO at the moment, and only want to put time into thinks which do actually help my rankings.

Yes 100 videos will give you 100 back links..but the link jiuce of the 100 will only count as one because it is from the same source..hope that helps

Question: Do you actually read replies? Answer: No.

In fact, that reply makes no sense. 100 videos counting as 1 link. Right. I see.
If I have 1,000 videos, it counts as one. Okay. Gotcha!

Videos are dang useful. Agreed 100%.

As stated videos do not directly give you good backlinks but some videos actually can lead to backlinks. Basically anytime you get alot of traffic you also stand the possibility of getting backlinks. One strategy is to do videos thathave two parts. One on youttube or other video sites and the second part only on your site. If the first videos becomes poular people will link the econd one and not just to youtube.

Yes, videos are not backlinks BUT I do backlink my videos and use the video link as post. So in essence it does get backlinked on different platforms.

Yes you do get a backlink but only with sites that let you leave a url in the description. Eg. on youtube you can type in the url but it wont be an anchor text. A backlink is a backlink and it's better than nothing. So although it's not the ideal backlink (anchor text) a url backlink will still count towards seo. Just build backlinks to the youtube link.

I don't know what any of that means. What url? What backlink? If you have a so-called
url on youtube, it's nofollow. But that's not a video backlink. And it certainly does
not count for SEO. Building backlinks to a youtube video is usless. You want to build
backlinks to your youtube channel. You are better off embedding your video
on websites that get traffic in hopes of a view to add to the numbers.

You want to maximize your youtube channel and optimize your video using facebook
compatible (and maybe now html5) elements. Building backlinks to your youtube
channel is the way to go, or to pages with your video on them.

Actually, Paul, Youtube is no longer nofollow. Any links from them that you get count towards your page rank and SEO value.

And as far as Youtube for backlinks goes, you have to think about it in terms of a couple of things.

        1. Sweat equity. Youtube links take a lot of time. You need to create a video for each backlink. Compare that with say forum profiles or article submissions and it's much more efficient to just build backlinks that way...

        2. Lack of IP diversity. Perhaps it may seem like a good idea to get 100 backlinks from Youtube, but considering the fact that these links will all be from one IP, they won't be worth much to you at all. In fact, I'd say you're better off with 10 links from 10 different IPs than 100 links from one IP.

No one knows the exact math on this, but it is more or less a diminishing return for the same IP.

In other words, yes it does add some SEO value, but focus more on video marketing for viewers, not search engines...

There are YouTube videos out there that have lots of link juice pointing to it from the web. I have seen page rank up to #7 on videos. But as for backlinks, no video is not backlinks related but just like others said, it can generate traffic.

What about the description areas on some video sites? Like You Tube for example they give you the option to add a no follow link, it won't pass link juice but it's still a relevant link right?

Uhhh .. is youtube the only video site where you can upload or embed [ prefer emebed ] ... videos?

There are certain social sites that allow you to paste in your video embed code ... and fill in a full html anchor text description - complete with anchor text backlinks ... and they are NOT rel=nofollow :-)

It creates a new page and a new urls and a backlink. I use the video as a placeholder ... errrr ... excuse to create a new page on a social networking site - where I can place my html anchor text link[s].

So if youtube is your world - then no ... if you can get out of youtubes box - YES

I'm not sure what some are speaking about here, but anytime you have a link somewhere that go's from x to you like on youtube or anywhere else, it's a backlink. If you just throw a video up and no link to your site, then not a backlink. Also it's key to remember who owns youtube.

quick definition for those still confused... It is a link on someone else’s site that leads to your own.

If you have a youtube channel you can put a link to your site from there that is a dofollow but you are not able to use a keyword as the backlink, it will be the http://yoursite.com that will be the link. But still a backlink all the same.

Ok, I thought this would be a simple yes/no answer. Aparently not!

So for youtube, we have the url in the channel and a url in each video description. These most probably count as valid backlinks, but without any anchor text, and may or may not count for pagerank.

Other social networking and video sites do allow url's and definately count as a valid backlink.

Videos are great for sending traffic to the site, and can act as a great linkbait if setup properly on our sites.

Does this sum it up so far warriors?

1000 hubpages or 100 varied ip blog comments?

1000 squidoo lenses or 100 posts on low pr/authority forums?

Nobody knows the true numbers or ratios ... for sure. But my testing on several platforms ... Im taking hte hubpages, squidoos, and ez articles all day every day.

I'll take the Youtube links too ... and the diversified IP links.

I'll let the other guys be the links snob mantra whores ... Imma SERP's whore [ as I once heard a good friend say ... ]

    good luck out there!

Right. I'm not saying there's any clearly defined ratio with regards to this, and if there is, Google sure as hell isn't telling us.

I'll take a little of both, but would prefer the larger IP spread.

And by the way david, anything that is a dofollow link counts for page rank. Page rank is just a massive measurement of value and authority a site builds by raw link power.

Creating videos cannot generate any backlinks. It won't budge your rankings but it can highly skyrocket your traffic. Just make sure it goes viral. Youtube videos provide temporary traffic.
