i have been getting questions about SEO of late. and the first thing i usually ask is, how is your keyword's strength of competition.

Okay the first thing you want to do before dominating a niche is to go to google and type this phrase.

intitle,inurl:"keyword"

this will give you ranked on google woth keyword in title and url, and as you know having a keyword in title and url would be the first steps as far as SEO goes.

I have had good results with keyword that have less than 500 results after using the above phrase.

So after getting your keyword, the best strategy to go about this is to create a website and host it with wordpress.
Google in some ways is married to wordpress.
After creating your wordpress site there are some SEO plugins that you will need to install.
1.Headspace2 plugin
2.All in one SEO pack.
3.Google xml sitemaps.

(if you have any question about installing this plugins, there are some awesome youtube videos that will keep you going, also you can send me a pm with whatever question.)

And one thing about keyword is don't only rely on one source, after finding a keyword for example in the google keyword tool, use wordtracker gtrends to get approximate daily searches you can receive on if you rank number one on google. If you don't find your keyword on wordtracker gtrend, leave it alone. I am telling you that from experience. i have had a keyword from google keyword tool, that says 3000 local monthly searches, which i never rechecked on gtrends. After a month my traffic stats recorded nothing more than 50 visits, and made nothing from it.

i have implemented this technique and i have had tremendous results with product launches. For example upcoming movies. The reason i chose movies for example is, here you have adverts places everywhere for you,in posters, supermarkets, tv, youtube, buses, subways. I mean everywhere. For example the movie Karate Kid launched mid this year, and lets look at the stats.(click to enlarge)

Now you are thinking the movie is not even out so how can people get access to the movie? Get a netflix link and tell people to join netflix using your affiliate link to watch movies online, as this visitors are intrested in watching movies already. If you can promote a CPA offer e.g FLV player download which by the way pay $1 per install, tell them Karate kid will stream perfectly with FLV player after it launched. Lets say all those 60,000 + people downloaded the offer. that would be like $60,000.
What if you had adsense pages there, or a link directing people to join any other movie company to watch unlimited movies?
How much can you make?

Take action and be smart with your keywords.

I just felt like sharing this. Let me know what you think.

You earnings would vary. If you are diverting people from your CPA download offer with Adsense you may make less overall, it will depend on the adsense payout.

I recommend others to also think about using Micro Niche Finder.

Keyword Research and Competitive analysis is the first two stages any webmaster or internet marker should think about, when trying to setup a successful site.

This gives you all the specs and it seems like this is exactly what you need to know.
Competition, good keywords, what are the strengths, how is the possibility of ranking, etc..

I use MNF ( Micro Niche Finder) then I work on building backlinks. It's a life savor

So to add to what you mentioned (good info btw...)
    Stage #1 - Competition Analysis.
    Stage #2 - Keyword Research
    Stage #3 - Link building / backlinks
