Can page backlinks affect domain rank?

Well, for one I want to start off by saying, "What's up, peoples?" as I've literally just joined this forum. I haven't yet ventured into the lands of affiliate marketing, as I've been doing nothing but research on it since late November, trying to learn as much as I can before creating a blog.

So now that I've gotten that out of the way, on to the meat and bones now...

If you SEO for a long-tail keyword (one of the pages in your site, for instance) would that in turn have the same effect on the middle part of that keyword?

For instance, if the domain niche is New York Giants, but maybe I have a page index that's geared toward a certain product, say for instance "New York Giants T-shirts", would the back links of that long-tail keyword naturally improve the middle part (New York Giants) which is the domain kw?

Yes, I am a newbie, so if this seems like a "resounding no" or an "obviously, dude" well I can't be faulted for wanting to get the facts straight.

it would naturally approve your links, because the links are quite similar. It will take alot more backlinks to rank for 'new york giants' though if you are using 'new yourk giants t shirts' then if you just used 'new york giants' as your keyword.

Something like "New York Giants T-Shirt" will have a decent effect at increasing your ranking for "New York Giants" because the search engines see that as being relevant to it. There is a newer theory called the "Link Pyramid" that is pretty much based on that idea. If you want to rank for "Acne" you can start building your ranking by building rankings for "Get rid of acne scars home remedy" that would build your rankings for "acne scars" which would build your rankings for "acne".

Interesting. See, the situation I have is that the short-tail keyword (or middle keyword) has very high search traffic (around 300k), however that kw is more of an informational type of niche. So my reasoning is, if I could laser target long-tail kw that are more transactional niches i could monetize the site with a combination of driving high traffic via the short-tail kw and implementing adsense, and then making profit by writing product reviews and utilizing SEO to improve my ranking for long-tail which would in turn improve my ranking for short-tail anyways.

    Is this reasonable you think?
