Link Wheel And Google PageRank

Hi Runner,

I worked with link wheels quite a bit about a year ago but have now abandoned that particular strategy.

I think there was a small window of time where they worked well but they don't appear to be effective any more.

This was one of those manipulative sort of stregies and for a while everyone jumped on the bandwagon and was using them.

It is possible that Google changed their algorithm as a result of this (I certainly don't know this for sure).

Thanks John!

My wheels are about two weeks old, so it is maybe too early
to say anything about the rank improvement. I have noticed
a slight move upwards with one of my sites.

By the way, I used only one long tail keyword per wheel, i.e.
the same term pointed to the money page and to the next page

I think you just need to think about the spokes. Say you are using Squidoo. Make sure it is a worthwhile lense. Don't put junk up. Take the time to get it right. I've used some of the sites often mentioned in link wheel strategies, but it is just part of what I do. For me, I value any site or page I put online and see each one as an opportunity to connect with real people, not search engines.

all of my spokes have been unique articles and optimized with the keyword.
Of course I`ll write always to the reader, not to the engines and the spokes,
like my Squidoo page, is well-planned.

So I don`t really understand this sudden PageRank problem.

Are you talking about your position in the search results or your Google page rank? They are two totally different things and it sounds like you're referring to your position in the search results but then you talk about a "PageRank problem", I just want to be sure we're all talking about the same thing here.

With a brand new link wheel all of the pages will be either PR n/a or PR 0 because they are all new pages. Google only updates their PR every 3 months or so and it's actually been quite a bit longer than that since the last update. You will not see brand new pages with PR over night.

Sorry, I explained the situation a little bit badly.
I meant the PageRank of the money pages, not spokes.

I used money pages, which had PageRanks from 1 to 3 and
now they are zero.

keep the wheels open ,that way there is no so called footprint for the search engine to
analyse for a link wheel ,eg 1 to 2 ,2 to 3,3 to 4 ,4 to 5 and NO 5 back to 1

I've heard more than once that Google prevented the competition from torpedoing your business with bad neighborhood and blackhat tactics by just disregarding the links. Any chance it's a coincidental bounce in ranking.

Perhaps they have gotten better at proving the ownership, you didn't use the same IP, right.

i didn't get anything wrong by the usage of link wheel. in fact its a very good strategy to promote your website on internet. may be you have done some mistakes in spokes.

i don't think that there is any problem. are you sure that all the sites that you have bookmarked are good sites? if those sites are banned by Google or any kind of thing that is banded by Google TAC then your PR can be reduced. i think this is the only reason for your problem.

I have also done the link wheel for my website and then do the social bookmarking of my landing page for get indexed quickly. And this link wheel has given me the quality backlinks for my website; but you need to follow particular strategies.
