Are you doing this manually? If so, it's definitely taking up a lot of time. Remember automation. There are quite a few softwares that allow you to create forum backlinks. Check out the WSOs and you'll see.

As a starter, here's my recommended:

Are you registering for Forums to join the community, or are you just trying to get a backlink? If you are just trying to get a backlink, you may not need to post in the forum as your profile will get indexed to the search engines (May have to use RSS, or other backlinks). If you are joining to become apart of the community (recommended), then try to pick 2-3 top forums within your niche and stick to them. Add a few posts, ask questions, etc.

If they are not getting clicked, maybe you are not targeting the right people. Have you taken a look at Quantcast to see what the demographics are for the forum? Are you trying to be too pitchy/Sales? Does your link stand out from others, etc etc.

Forums are a great way to find out about peoples problems. Study the text, find out the answers, and give them what they want!

    Keep testing!!

If you're signing up purely for backlinks, then you should outsource with services on this forum, or outside services or just use some well known software. Don't take your time up doing it yourself.

I agree. If you don't have much time to spend on participating to forums, you may outsource it.

when will people learn a forum is firstly about what you give and not about what you can take, this auto register post / register crap should all go into the bin, its no wonder many forums are cranking down on Sig links, / forums are not interested in rubbish or people who's only purpose is to spam out Sig links, the people simply waste space time and energy.

you are better of joining a forum and as suggested helping people as your primary goal, do that and then people may follow your links.

Doing the forum posting is the best way to get the backlinks and you will need some time to post or comment on each and every forum. Also you can make use of the automation softwares which helps you to do the posting.

Create articles and post in article directories and when others pirate your articles and repost them in their websites with your link, you'll get a lot of backlinks.. registering in forums now worth a time...

I recommend that if you are going to use any type of forum site that you DO NOT automate. Also do your best to positively contribute to the community, otherwise the members and admins will see through your efforts and most likely ban / remove you.

Forum backlinks have work for me with clean tests. The challenge is getting enough links to add value without getting booted from the forum.

I don't think using softwares is a good idea. Really spammy. Outsourcing and doing it for your self at the same time might be a good idea.

Why are you building sig backlinks on forums? Do you want people to click through to your site or offer? Or do you want the link juice? If its link juice then make sure the sites are dofollow. If the sig links are for people to click through then make sure you are offering something good to the community. No ones going to click on your sig when you leave vague comments.

As for software, Xrumer is the best software for forum posting.

No, with blog comments its generally one link per comment.

You are right, forum sigs are a good way to backlink multiple sites if you dont have backlinking software. You can also go and create multiple free accounts at web 2.0 sites like Squidoo, Blogger, Tumblr, Multiply, Xanga, Posterous.... you can usually drop 3 or 4 links per page. Just post a video or photo of something and then write a paragraph or two and you can put your links in the paragraphs.

To check if a site is nofollow or dofollow get the free firefox nodofollow addon. The addon will highlight all the links on a page in pink if they are nofollow and all the dofollow links will be blue.

Forum Posting is really a big help when getting backlinks and the more you post, the more back links you get. If you post consistently, it will not only help your site outrank other site but will also help you in terms of your SEO skills and other problems.

To get backlinks from forums, you should hire someone to do it for you, this way you don't have to do it yourself and can focus on improving your business by doing something else, like article writing, research and so on.
