How to validate Google Places Listing?

UNtil recently Google gave the option to validate a Places listing via phone. So you could use any po box address in any city. I just noticed they removed the phone option for a business listing. Anyone find a way around this?

They could be forcing people to verify by mail as a way against abuse and to provide
accurate listings for their users. Not sure what you mean by "find a way around this."
Isn't it best to have your business listed at its exact location?

I can't see how a PO box is a viable local listing. Doesn't google frown on po boxes to
    begin with?

You can validate your listing by phone or postcard, I would prefer to verify my business listing with the postcard

I just got a listing without the Phone option, only postcard, I guess there is nothing to do if Google say so and just wait 2-3 weeks...

You can still validate a listing by phone. However, using po boxes is getting slapped already so you will want to change your location solution. Also, if you are not separating your GP listings into different Google accounts this may also be why your verification options are limited. We phone verify all of our clients since we do not wait for the client to get a post card that they may not receive or just throw away. Don't rely on them to get the job done, just do it yourself. It's much faster and less worry.

I just did a listing today 1/19/11 and only the mail option is available.

I did one 3 weeks ago and it allowed phone.

    Sucks, I like instant gratification.

I just verified about 20 or so yesterday by phone. I had 2 that were postcards since they had been previously claimed and we were recapturing them. It often depends on if the business has been verified in the past, if you have separate emails accounts, and a few other things. Phone is still an option to verify businesses guys.
