Nofollow Backlinks--Can We Clear Up a Few Things?

There is a lot of talk on here about nofollow backlinks. I gather that pr juice does not transfer from these links, but I am wondering if you guys believe anchor text credit is given for them?

    It doesn't pass page rank, and isn't 'supposed to increase rankings'...

    There's a lot of debate about the subject.

    Here's my opinion:

    I WILL GO OUT OF MY WAY to get dofollow backlinks. However, I WILL NOT go out of my way to AVOID nofollow links. (I personally think nofollow links have a positive impact on rankings, but the facts from the big boys state otherwise)

    What I mean by that is I like going for dofollow links, but if I'm presented with an opportunity to leave a backlink that's nofollow, I'll still build the link.

    According to Google and Wikipedia, dofollow links are MUCH more valuable for us guys

      That's exactly the same approach I take. You should be getting both as it looks more natural. But do go out of your way to get High Authority, do follow backlinks

      Thanks for the clarification. I did not know that the no follow was good for SEO but not for page rank. It doesn't seem that page rank will matter after 2011 anyway. From what I've read on this site Google is phasing it out.

        When you stop and think, what is "natural" about a nofollow link?
        Why does google care about natural? That's such a bogus word when it
        comes to links.

        Nofollow was created to not pass PR from links that may be abused with spam.
        Taking that into account, wouldn't logic say that if google "saw" a nofollow link,
        they would consider it possible spam? After all, that's what nofollow is for. Spam.

        So when you decide it helps rankings, by itself, in what way?

        If a link is nofollow, PR and anchor text are both ignored.

        I'd say if the big bad google was actually watching, they'd say that
        50 nofollow links were 50 possible spam links.

        Makes no sense to create 50 nofollow links to balance 50 non nofollow links.
        There is no such thing as dofollow. Many links are ignored, nofollow or not.

        But please, go out and get as many nofollow links as you can. Leave the others
        to the rest of us.

        It'll be a Festivus for the rest of us!

    As far as i have seen google follows "No follow links" . I have got backlinks from sites which has nofollow attribute to them.

    I think you know my opinion. But I will say this.

    You need a mixture of both. But you can get that simply by posting links on various sites, some will be dofollow and some will be nofollow.

    Google looks for patterns, and then if they find any, they usually slap you.

    So while I would not pay more, for example for a dofollow list of sites, I would not avoid dofollow links either.

      I disagree. No PR is passed but they are still read.

      How do I know this? Because I tested it. I used only nofollow blog comments to rank a microniche site at #1 for several keywords.

      So for me at least, based on my experience the anchor text is read and the links are crawled. PR however, which I could give a flying hang about, is not passed.

        Guys,
        I just simply want to say that Nofollow only affects outgoing links from your site. It tells the Search Engines not to follow any outgoing links.

    If you're using automated software like Scrapebox, I would not worry about nofollow links and just post to anything that allows a link.

    If you're doing manual posting, it would be worth it to find dofollow blogs to get as much link value as possible for your time.
