Hi,
Im trying to get started in doing SEO for small businesses. Ive been studying hard and feel i know enough to be of service to businesses. How did you get started? Did you or do you work for yourself or for a SEO company? Do you do everything yourself or out source some of it? How do you know how much to charge for your work?......I have an appointment tomorrow for some entry level SEO work.

Practice makes perfect. You need to dive in and get yours hands dirty and your feet wet to REALLY grasp the whole SEO/SEM/IM model...

I would suggest at first doing EVERYTHING yourself... That is if you can. If you can't build a website then outsource it. If you can't write... I don't know if it's the field for you Lol! A lot of people on the forums will say OUTSOURCE EVERYTHING BLAH BLAH BLAH! I don't believe in that. If you can't make things happen on your own then what can you do besides outsource...? Plus, if you're starting out, outsourcing requires $$$

When you do things yourself, you'll figure out your own methods and strategies and really grasp the whole SEO/SEM/IM concept which will help you in the long run and make you a more successful, knowledgeable IMer!

I started out just making web sites for fun. It's a hobby. I did Adsense sites for a bit. Mastered my keyword/competition research. I did offline advertising through a website that was quite successful. I've been spending most of my time working on some legal websites for the firm I work for now. Extreme competition and not many searches... But they are targeted searches and targeted traffic and the monetary value is INSANE!

I did EVERYTHING myself up until a couple of months ago including articles. Started outsourcing some link building, Press Releases, finally paid for some tools Lol! But I still use the free ones I've always used of course...

    Hope this helped a little!

One thing I would do (it will take some work + time) is to build a few small sites of your own (you own the site), & get them ranked #1 in the SERPs.

They don't have to be big sites, just use them as a portfolio to prove you can get the job done for future clients.
I also have thought this would be wise to do and im starting work on that. Thanks

It was simply ridiculous... I had a hay day on some Warriors bashing a thread in the reciprocal links forum... I said it over and over if you have a problem with a thread or someone or something report it as abuse... Kids like you ruin the forums. They start in on me (like 6 different kids), so I went a little A-Wall THEN reported the thread myself.

The moderator thanked me for reporting the thread then banned me for 24 hrs.

        Ridiculous.
