TUTORIAL With Screenshots: Here is How To Build Sites That Google LOOOOVEs!

In this short tutorial we’re going to see how to build a powerful niche website that Google loves. To do this we will extract some data from the very useful options panel of Google search.

Please note that this is not an exact science and the model explained below is only one model among others. It works very well but I do not claim that it is THE ultimate model.

That being said I believe the step by step explanations will be very useful to some people, especially to those of you just starting out (experienced site builders might learn a few things too).

The Google options we will use are not available in all countries, so to ensure you can follow along, use this version of Google:

Google

Our Niche Topics

In this example, we’re going to pursue the “bowling balls” niche. This tutorial is not about market research or keyword research so I won’t explain how and why I have decided to target this niche.

When you want to build a new website, the first thing to do is to find related and relevant themes in the eyes of Google. Ideally you should start a new niche website with a minimum of 10 articles and add new articles on a regular basis.

Now the question is: “How to find relevant themes in the eyes of Google?”

Let Google tell us… Type “bowling balls” in the search box and submit your query. Then make sure to disable the instant results by selecting “Instant is off”:

Then click on “More search tools” like in the screenshot below:

Then click on “Related searches” in the left sidebar:

Now just look at the top of the screen, you will get ideas for different themes:

So thanks to the Related searches option we now have 6 themes (Our main theme + 5 others):
  • Bowling balls
  • Bowling shoes
  • Bowling games
  • Bowling shirts
  • Bowling tips
  • Bowling bags

Those themes will later become categories for the site.

Note that even though the keyword we are after is related to bowling balls, we WANT to have content about bowling shoes, games, shirts, tips and bags. This will make our site very relevant to bowling balls (in the eyes of Google) and will help us to outrank other sites while building much less backlinks than them.

If you don’t believe me, watch this video where I have proved this once and for all:
Easy Video Player » PART 5 Checking The Competition

Article Topics

We now need to find the topics for the articles that are going to populate our site.

Let’s build a list of related keywords for our 6 themes.

Go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

(Quick note: The Adwords team and the Organic team are 2 different entities. So the 2 algorithms behind Google Search and the Google Adwords Keyword Tool are completely different. Both teams try to find the most relevant terms to one keyword through their work but it is possible that what Adwords says is relevant to your keyword is NOT what Google Search thinks. So why use this tool instead of the wonderwheel and the related searches options of Google Search? First – this Adwords tool gives us much more data and ideas. And secondly both teams are very competent and their results tend to be the same, or at least very similar).

Select the language and country you’re targeting, enter your 1st theme in the keyword box, check the “Only show ideas closely related to my search terms” option, enter the captcha code if any and click on the search button.

Then make sure the returned keywords are sorted by Relevance and select a minimum of 3 keywords (5 being better) that are not TOO similar. For example if you look at the ones I selected below, I didn’t take “discount bowling balls” because it is too similar to “cheap bowling balls”.

Also when you do this, do NOT take the search volume and the competition level into account. The article topics we are selecting now are going to help us build a website ULTRA relevant to the main keyword we are targeting, so competition level is not an issue at all at this stage.

Let’s do the same thing for the other themes… (I won’t show you screenshots as it’s exactly the same process).

My list of article topics is:

Bowling balls:
  • bowling balls for sale
  • cheap bowling balls
  • custom bowling balls
  • storm bowling balls
  • kids bowling balls
Bowling shoes:
  • cheap bowling shoes
  • dexter bowling shoes
  • kids bowling shoes
  • bowling shoes for women
  • linds bowling shoes
Bowling games:
  • free bowling games
  • bowling games online
  • bowling games for kids
  • fun bowling games
  • 3d bowling games
Bowling shirts:
  • retro bowling shirts
  • custom bowling shirts
  • cheap bowling shirts
  • bowling shirts for men
  • vintage bowling shirts
Bowling tips:
  • bowling tips and techniques
  • bowling tips for beginners
  • bowling tips video
  • fast bowling tips
  • bowling tips from the pros
Bowling bags:
  • bowling bags on sale
  • cheap bowling bags
  • bowling bags with wheels
  • storm bowling bags
  • brunswick bowling bags

Adding Content to Our Site

We now need to create articles for these topics and publish them on our site.
We basically have 3 different options:

Option 1: Write the articles ourselves
Option 2: Pay someone to write the articles
Option 3: Leverage free content

Options 1 & 2 are pretty straightforward so I will not cover them here. They are the BEST options if you have enough money or time to invest.

However option 3 is also very powerful if done correctly. And this is what we are going to cover here.

Leveraging Free Content

What we are going to do is take articles already published on article directories. We will NOT break the TOS of those article directories as we will let the author boxes intact with the links made active.

But what we are going to do is add a block of unique text above and a block of unique text below those articles.

Let me show you this for the 1st topic of the “bowling balls” theme.

The topic is “bowling balls for sale”.

So we go to Google and type this in the search box:

Bowling balls for sale site:ezinearticles.com

You can do this with other article directories. What it does is return the most relevant articles for your search term from and only from the site that is after the site: command. So in our example it will return all the articles that are relevant to “Bowling balls for sale” and that are published on ezinearticles.com

The 1st one in the results being considered the most relevant one by Google.

As you can see it’s not 100% relevant to what we want. If you are not satisfied with the result, just repeat this search with other article directories.

Let’s do this with goarticles.com for example.

This one looks much better. We now need to take this article. Almost all the article directories allow you to download those articles easily. On goarticles.com just click on “Publish article”:

It allows you to copy the article with the HTML tags already placed where needed.

We then have to add a header and a footer around this article to make it unique (well not completely unique but unique enough to be able to rank that page more easily). Adding a header and a footer will also allow us to add our topic’s keyword making it even more optimized than the original article.

Here is how it would look like (note that I’m not a writer and furthermore I’m French so I apologize if my header / footer blocks are crappy – it’s just an example):

Finding a bowling ball that fits your style is not always an easy task. You need to find one with a good weight, not too heavy, not too light, with holes big enough and spaced well enough for your fingers.

You can of course just use the bowling balls put at your disposal in the bowling clubs but you would then have to content yourself on what is available which could handicap you.

On the other hands bowling balls for sale are often quite expensive. If you have the budget though, don’t hesitate to purchase your own ball as it would definitely help you being a better bowler. I have found this article from John Tasher that could also give you a few ideas:

Did you notice that John had a link titled bowling balls for sale? I didn’t check his site but maybe he offers good prices.

Anyway I hope you liked this article. You can also read our other articles if you need to find some good bowling balls (NOTE: and here you put a link to your bowling balls category).

I wrote those header and footer blocks very quickly. I didn’t have to make any research, I just wrote what I thought without knowing anything about the topic.

The advantage of this approach is that it allows you to build sites pretty quickly without having to pay for content. You just leverage the content that has already been written by other experts.

You of course have to do this for ALL the article topics that you have found in the steps above but I can guarantee that it’s much faster than writing the articles yourself and much cheaper than paying someone for writing them for you!

In some cases it can even give you better results than writing the articles yourself because those experts you are borrowing articles from have (sometimes) made some indepth research.

Automating this last step!

Instead of browsing the article directories yourself, select the articles, write different header and footer blocks and then publish them on your site (which takes time) you can check the WSO of a fellow warrior (Oz aka SMS).

He released a wordpress plugin some times ago that does exactly that. I don't have the exact url but with a search in the WSO section you should find it easily. The plugin is called Wordpress Easy Content (WPEC)

Hope you liked this short tutorial, if you have any question don’t hesitate to ask.

UPDATE 2011/01/08

The "Related Searches" option has disappeared from the Google side bar for a few days now... Don't let this stop you, there are many other ways to find related topics by using Google.

I have posted one of those methods here.

UPDATE 2011/01/11

If you want to monetize your sites with adsense make sure to only use unique content as stated by MarkTX in this post. Else you could seriously get banned from the Adsense program.

    Vitavee,

That is a fantastic tutorial! Honestly...people are so busy looking for the next big thing, that they forget the basics.

I too have WPEasyContent...it is possibly my favorite tool of 2010.

    1) What I like to do is make my good original posts into pages. I make 4-5 really high quality original articles and make them highly visible in the sidebar.

    2) I make my Wordpress landing page, a page, not post.

    3) Then I have a blog in the backend and I create hundreds of posts with WPEC...that drip out 2-3 per day.

My goal is to get people to click over to one of the 5 high-quality articles in the sidebar, which presell a product. On some sites I will have an opt-in form at the top of the sidebar.

Great recommendation....WPEC is a sweet tool!

Thanks Rusty, your plan looks awesome. I'm doing something quite similar but instead of preselling products I'm preselling my newsletters.

And no matter that you are saying that this article is not specific about KW research I think that there are quite important tips which includes KW research. When it comes to KW research and choosing them I'm always get a little confused, because I am consider myself just a beginner in Internet marketing, and I do not know a lot of things yet.

        Hello Ahmad

I just checked the WSO thread (http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...e-2-weeks.html) and it's now closed unfortunately.

So I think the only way to get it is via the official site.

I don't understand why you would think that this is classed as unique (or acceptably unique) content?

Why does writing an introduction and recap change things? It's still the same content at the end of the day and is probably published on lots of different places, plus you've got outgoing links stealing your traffic.

I have seen this plugin and thought this very thing at the time - this is not a good long term strategy to me.

The main part of getting any site to rank is in the back link building and if you are going to go to the expense/ effort of back linking (which is considerable) then I would want my content to be problem free.

Google is always going to alter it's algorithm to eliminate dupe content and so you run the risk of doing all that work and then things crashing down around you.

Think about it, does this really make sense? Your just copying a huge authoritative article directory - why would you do that?

Well go to google and search for this:

"In this short tutorial we're going to see how to build a powerful niche website that Google loves"

        Keep the quotes

You will understand why adding headers / footers make the content somewhat unique for the search engines.

I'm not sure I understand or buy this statement. I've done too many searches trying to find very specific info (where I'll go many pages deep into Google to find just the right little bit of info) only to come upon several results that all have the same page title and content exerpt listed. Sometimes it happens on the first page, but mostly on the second, third, or fourth page. Google obviously hasn't eliminated any duplicate pages and they don't seem to have imposed much of a penalty, if any penalty at all.

But maybe I'm still missing something.

      Peace

I think you're right about that. The OP did mention that this was the third best way to get material for a site. The 2 that were better were to write the material yourself, or pay for it.

Sometimes the outgoing links problem can be minimized. I found a couple of good articles lately that related to sites I have. One was written by someone with a serious health problem and fit in really nicely with a page I wanted to put up. His resource box, which I always keep intact, linked to his cordless drill site

Another that I used was an English article on an English article directory, but the author's resource box linked to his French site, and the resource box even mentioned that it covered the topic in French.

Not a lot of link leakage in either of those cases, I'd expect. Some of the hobby writers post some of the better articles but they aren't focused on seo, traffic, etc.

In fairness to the OP he did say option 1 or 2 was the best. In farirness to you your point is solid. Using massive amounts of duplicate scraped content to build a website is a deeply flawed strategy.

Absolutely, that was my point. The 2 pages that are indexed (in the main index) are my forum and another site that has stolen my content.

The differences between the 2 pages?

1/ On my forum there is a kind of footer (the replies from the other members)
2/ On the other site he added a header.

This is enough for Google to treat those 2 pages as unique content.

Now this same tutorial that I have posted here on the warriorforum (this exact page) will soon be in the main index too because of the comments from the other warriors. This creates a new footer so this page will be different from the page on my forum and from the page of the other webmaster who stole my content.

Beautiful tutorial, You can never go wrong with screen shots . They are so easy to take in.

So when you write relevant pages on the themes you chose for example the keyword above. (bowling balls)

      Bowling shoes:
      • cheap bowling shoes
      • dexter bowling shoes
      • kids bowling shoes
      • bowling shoes for women
      • linds bowling shoes
would you link back to the main page targeting "bowling balls" or would you not link back and just write the relevant pages so that google can pick them up and see the relevancy.?
And lastly what domain name would you use? this is all theoretical of course. (taking in account that bowlingballs.com and anything close would already be taken)

thank you again for the info.

Thanks for alerting me about this thread and inviting me to post here. I hope I am welcome by Vita and the rest.

I am Oz the creator of WPEasyContent. Unfortunately, I don't think I am allowed to post a link to my product even though I've been invited to do so... and I'd rather err on the side of caution.

If you look around, I'm sure you'll find a link.

And I don't want to get into any debate about Duplicate Content. I've said all that needs to be said in my GVMC report, and my mate Russ helped me make a series of videos that address the practicalities of Duplicate Content and how WPEasyContent leverages this to tremendous effect.

You'll have to optin to watch the videos... again the link to the Squeeze Page shouldn't be that hard to find.

          HAPPY NEW YEAR, everyone!

              Hi Jason,

Yes there is an upgrade option from Platinum to Developer - and the current upgrade price means that you end up paying the same as if you bought Developer from the onset.

              Oz.

Please forgive me for my adolescence but please correct me if I'm wrong. Upgrading from your platinum to your developer package would consist of only paying the difference right? We wouldn't have to purchase the full amount of a developers' license correct?

                Again I'm sorry

    Nice report...

It's plain and simple and easy to work on. However, it's up to each individual to apply it on a daily basis... and I think that's where most people fall down.

    * Pick one niche and stick to that. Don't wander off
    * Follow the plan as laid out in this report
    * Stick with it... even when you don't feel like it
    * Don't be afraid to make mistakes
    * Learn from your mistakes
    * When you make some money, use it to outsource some tasks
    * And don't be afraid to try new things within your niche

    Hope this helps:-)

This is very interesting and is something that I didn't realise; I'd read that a good placement in the SERPs depended upon a good keyphrase match combined with a high PageRank. So it's good to know that the relevance of the total content on your website can be a powerful influence on your placement.

      Bowling shoes:
      • cheap bowling shoes
      • dexter bowling shoes
      • kids bowling shoes
      • bowling shoes for women
      • linds bowling shoes
would you link back to the main page targeting "bowling balls" or would you not link back and just write the relevant pages so that google can pick them up and see the relevancy.?
And lastly what domain name would you use? this is all theoretical of course. (taking in account that bowlingballs.com and anything close would already be taken)

thank you again for the info.

It is easy to forget about all of those great "side" tools that Google gives us.

Sometimes when I get stuck, the Wonder Wheel can push me in the right direction. I had never really paid much attention to turning "instant" ON and OFF. Makes sense.

I can just say that yesterday Related searches was available for me, but today they are not anymore. So probably there have been made very recent changes in Google. Still that is strange that for some people that is still available. I just looked at that Wonder wheel, in fact that also looks good.

Maybe we really can use this instead of related searches which are no longer available in that way like they were just yesterday?

      Computer Girl -

I know, I tried this out either yesterday or the day before and it worked well. Now, even the related search thing at the bottom doesn't give the same info for bowling balls as the original "related search" tool.

Then again, my google toolbar has also gone wonky the last day or two. Maybe they are throwing things against the walls over at Google and it'll be a while before things settle down.

I do hope they bring it back, or something similar. Wonder Wheel looks like the next best substitute so far. May need to dig into that more.

I still really like his technique and think you could use it in whatever way you find multiple results that relate to your main keyword. They way he used it for organizing a large report or ebook is just great. We make that kind of stuff too hard, and this general method follows exactly what Google is putting out!

This problem actually reminds me of something I tried when that "instant" thing first showed up. I took my main keyword and then typed "a" as if I was going to write another word. The top results starting with that letter then showed up.

For example, with bowling balls I just tried "bowling a" and I got alleys and alone. For "bowling b" I got balls, bags, ball reviews. Some letters are going to produce more than others, but I wouldn't have thought about "bowling movies" until I did "bowling m"!!

So while this may take a little longer, I think this can still give some good unexpected related searches. You could probably get lost in this for a while, which is maybe what you need to do if you are going to dig for really unique google-loved search terms. I mean, it's giving them right to you.

The only problem is that I don't think you can have the "instant" part fill in things *before* your search term. That cuts down your options, unless you manually move some things around. If anyone figures that out, I'd like to know.

Of course, there are other tools/methods that we can use, if this really will not be available anymore. But I think that maybe it will be back, I used link from yesterday searches in which I know that I used related searches and I got result in Google:

WPEasyContent looks like an amazing product but it is fairly expensive.

I highly recommend a very similar product by Paul Forcey called EasySpinIntro at Easy Spin Intro which sells for only $27 and can be purchased for as little as $12 if you Google around a little.

No, of course it does not have a zillion bells and whistles but it does automatically insert spinnable prefixes and suffixes to Wordpress blog posts.

Paul Forcey is known for his fine products and excellent support and there a great user manual and many videos explaining everything in detail.

I am not an affiliate for (or even an acquaintance of) Paul Forcey but I thought I would mention this great, super inexpensive alternative to give people an additional option.

I still maintain that there is a place for this kind of sites full of duplicate content (I have given examples of several sites above). If you can build links to them you WILL get traffic and make money without any doubt. I repeat: it's not theory it's based on experience.

I also agree that original content is better as I said in my initial post but then what? Those who can't write their own articles or pay someone to write them for them can still make money with this 3rd option. Don't discourage them by telling that it's nonsense because it's not.

If you give this method a fair try you will see by yourself.

Just another thing, it's wrong to tell that sites with duplicate content don't get linked to by other people, they do. They do because they group articles about the same topic on one single place and in niche markets people don't even now what duplicate content is. So if they like the articles you have published they will link to it if they own a personal blog, in forums etc...

Of course they don't get as many natural links as sites with compelling unique content (unique is not enough it has to be great content) but they do get some natural links.

Thanks a lot for the recommendation. It looks like a great plugin and very affordable. The only "problem" if we can call this a problem is that it doesn't automate the extraction and publishing of the articles based on your keywords. It only adds headers + footers to the posts you already have on your blog. What I like with WPEC is that you give it your keywords and it searches the articles for you and publishes them for you on your blog making it a set and forget solution when it comes to content.

But as I said above you still have to build backlinks to your posts to rank on the search engines. There is also a very good automated solution for this (not an affiliate link):

And if you build backlinks to a site with some meaningful content you will make even more money and no you cannot say without a doubt. Depends on the niche and the quality of the backlinks. Sorry but there are people all over this board claiming they can guarantee success for as little work as possible and the board is also full of people who claimed when they don't get there they were ripped off.

I answered all of your examples but you are intent on ignoring the difference between an article directory , press release sites that provides a service and a duplicate content site that provides no service. Are other marketers and major sites linking to your duplicate content site? Of course not. Again Apple and Oranges.

I've said now multiple times that your strategy in option 1 and 2 is sound. the only thing is #3. anyone that can buy a $77 program, learn to use it, create backlinks and study a niche so that they can rank is capable of providing some original content and it will only make their site better and make them more money. So its really you discouraging them Vita. Just because some people point out a problem in ONE of the three options you gave does not mean they are discouraging people.

If you give this method a fair try you will see by yourself.

Just another thing, it's wrong to tell that sites with duplicate content don't get linked to by other people, they do.
They do not and you are wrong. As a SEO consultant I look at links constantly and it is rare that people link to sources that have not earned at least some trust (unless the link is bought). It easy to show

            A) FACT. Relatively few people link with followed links anymore.
            B) You can see that people do not link to dud articles on this board. People link to resources and services they use and to bloggers that create at least some of their own content which they trust.
            C) FACT. Those sites that are in the regular habit of featuring other websites do not link to scraped content sites.

So am I saying that no duplicate content farm site EVER gets a link from some low authority site? any kind of site can get a link but in terms of what is normal and significant. No you are still wrong on that.

Meanwhile Google constantly changes its algo and like I told Oz we already know that google filters out (not penalizes) duplicate content so a slight tweak to that part of the algo and sites will disappear from the search results. and you've yet to rspond to what an adsense reviewers have been known to do with sites that don't meet their guidelines.

this seems more like blatant plagiarism than "leveraging" to me. maybe i missed something...

just sandwich a paragraph or two of your own content between someone's article? really? really?! And then you put their content on your site? wow.

I'd be pretty pissed if someone did this to me. I'd want blood. Stealing from direct competitors..This really works?

My moral standards really aren't that high, but this doesn't seem right. Still, I'm not ruling anything out. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Cheers.

This is not plagiarism because you will be re-publishing the content with the permission of the original publisher, and should leave all attribution links in place.

You shouldn't modify the content by sandwiching sentences within the content. What you can do is add headers and footers outside the content.

There will always be a place for Duplicate Content on the Internet. The trick is knowing when and how to leverage it effectively.

Sorry Oz but thats overstated to the point of being totally false. Yes there can be some syndication of content but what we are talking about here is entire sites with nothing but duplicate content and Google does not love it. You can circumvent the duplicate content filter in places but you will run into it sooner or later in others. We have to stop telling people they can rank and be successful by doing nothing and buying a plugin.

Its a strategy that may work in a few weak niches but its not going to work across the board in most serps. Its just setting people up for failure.

What is false (let alone totally false) about that staetment?

I'm not going to argue with you.

There are lots of ways to skin a cat. Vita Vee has presented one way... that works for him. It works for me, too.

I don't expect everyone to do it 'this way'. In fact that would just lead to saturation.

The plugin you talk about actually has a Best Practices Guide - but that's besides the point.

Vita Vee shared a very useful strategy here - and it's not fair for us to hijack his thread and turn it into another boring and very predictable debate about Duplicate Content - there are alraedy hundreds of threads for that.

          Apologies Vita!

          I'm outta here.

To each their own - live and let live!

Then don't. Like we say in the SEO forum - put up the evidence not just the testimonial. I'm open to seeing how having a site completely scraped from others content makes you a Google superstar. thats the context of this thread. Like I said I take no issue with sparing use of syndicated content but there is no "always have a place" for sites built on dummy content and dummy content alone if we are talking about what Google loves.

Hi, this is a very interesting thread in several ways (my thanks to Shane Melaugh for telling me about it).

Thank you for a nicely laid out Tutorial Vitavee, the principles sit very well with me and I was able to follow it as far as the Google "Related Searches" issue. I could not get that to work for me (without Instant) on either Google.com or Google.co.uk (I'm in UK).
I have not been able to access the Wonderwheel (my favourite Tool) for some months now, despite the heading being visible and an empty space appearing where it should be when I click!!
The short version of "Related Searches" which appears at the bottom of the page is not detailed enough to include all those options that you found.

Thank you Oz for chipping in, I follow your work whenever I can because it always makes sense to me. I'm too inexperienced yet in using the principles in the "War Zone" but if I choose I'd go with you, because I've read so much about duplicate content and yet not seen the huge fears substantiated when it comes down to the simple use of an unedited article (with the originator's details unaltered). Your Premium Content just makes so much sense I'm sticking with it. It isn't as though these articles are a bunch of overspun crap, a good article (or 3) from any of the top Article Directories does provide sound content - and they stand complete, so I don't see a problem with Heading and Tailing them with your own additional comment - you'd do that if you were sending a friend some useful info.............

Cheers - I'm sure we all have different outlooks, we're not robots!! So live and let live, keep our minds open to ideas that work, but go with what we're personally comfortable with!

The point of it is to quickly populate your own site with content. However, as one or two posters have already commented, there are drawbacks to relying exclusively upon other people's articles to bulk out your site....

yes nice tutorial I am not sure I agree with using material from articles directories because of all the outgoing links taking away visitors and diluting your linking power, should decide to link to another of your sites.

Perhaps you're better off using quality plr you can still you a header a footer, although I prefer to rewrite the first and last paragraphs which seems to achieve the same results

This all sounds and look good guys. But, if you would like
to know how effective WP Easy Content is, run a search
        for the following:

"Many people want to know more about"

"your understanding of the subject will increase"

"Obviously, there is a lot more to know about"

Then you will have an idea of all who is using WP S C

Maybe when it was just released, it was effective,
but you bet it no longer is!

Those pages are still ranking for the search phrases, aren't they?

Those pages are indexed, aren't they?

What does that say about the effectiveness of the strategy?

More importantly, those pages will be able to rank for their target keywords. None of those people wants to rank for "Many people want to know more about" - so that's just a bonus.

And the people that followed the advice in the Best Practices Guide... well you just won't be
to identify their websites using your search phrases.

Wow I see that there have been some interesting discussion here

1/ 1st about the "Related Searches" option, it has disappeared for me too. It's not the 1st time it disappears though, it happened about 2 months ago and then it came back, hopefully it will come back this time too.

There are many other ways to find relevant topics so in case it wouldn't come back I'll try to show one or two.

2/ About the duplicate content debate. First as I said in my original post I prefer unique content over duplicate content but then I also prefer to have a LOT of modified duplicate content (headers + footers) rather than just a few unique articles.

The Google index is full of authority sites that are no more than duplicate content houses so the evidence that it works is here in front of everyone's eyes.

    Don't believe me?

Would you say that free-press-release.com is an authority site? It is PR5, it has 5,280,000 indexed pages and it's FULL of duplicate content! Actually I even think that all the press releases on that site are duplicate content like for ALL the other press release websites. As soon as a press release is published there are thousands of scrapers that republish the articles elsewhere.

And goarticles.com or articledashboard.com and co... Those directories are also FULL of duplicate content. They even encourage people to duplicate the articles they host on other websites, this is the purpose of those sites.

Articledashboard is a PR5 website and has 1,310,000 indexed pages in Google.

Socialmention.com is a PR6 website and is nothing more than duplicate content cut in small chunks.

Those sites are not exceptions - there are really TONS of websites like that on the net.

At one point of time I also had my own article directory. It was PR5, had more than 100,000 indexed articles and ALL of them were duplicate content. And I was getting great traffic to those articles without even building any backlink myself.

One of my friends has started to build an authority sites a few months ago with a secret method I showed him. Today he has 68,000 indexed pages in Google and ALL of them are composed of duplicate content (without breaking any TOS of course). His site grows daily and new pages are indexed real fast.

Personally I have no problem in using WPEC to build my sites and show others how I do it. It works and it's not theory.

I hope this will be my last post here. Vita, this is your baby...

However, I seriously think you should delete the post I quoted below. We can't have everyone knowing that they can join our club and leverage Duplicate Content, without getting locked up by Google.

We need the majority to carry on believing that Duplicate Content is EVIL.

Please stick to THEORY - that's what the 'experts' want!

earlier you said it wasn't fair to ask these questions because it derailed the thread but its quite fine for you to leverage the discussion towards your club right Oz?

keeping to the issue without constantly referring to your product would be best.

I welcome the evidence that this works. I don't turn down anything that works but you really haven't shown that just copying a bunch of content makes people rank. The very nature of SEO in fact disproves that premise. All pages rank by on keyword content AND backlinks not by generating ton loads of duplicated content.

For the avoidance of doubt... when I said club, what I actually meant was 'way of thinking'. I was not referring to a real club that people can join, because no such club exists.

If anything, I was discouraging Vita from adding fuel to the unnecessary debate.

Constantly referring to my product...:confused::confused:

If you can point me to any post where I've mentioned my product, apart from my first post after I was invited by Ian, and one or two posts in response to direct questions about the product - I'll very happily remove the mention(s).

I never implied that there had to be. You both use a strategy that some see a big flaw in. Thats the only club that needs to exist for my observation. My point stands that there really is no good reason but the obvious for you not to want any questioning of whether the strategy works. Its perfectly on topic to discuss whether one of the strategies work and people to disagree and state their reasons why etc. Your derailing accusation is off.

So if you keep saying live and let live maybe you should finally follow that.. I'm cool with that. and Vitavee at least has claimed to now understand and agree with my point

Here are some suggestions for anyone reading this thread, especially newbies.

I'll preface this by stating that I know that Vita's strategy works very well.

The point, though is... why should you believe me or Vita? We are just faceless names on a Forum. For all you know vitavee & SMS could be one and the same person. :p

So the ideas below can be applied to Vita's strategy, but more importantly they can be applied to any other strategies or methods that you come across.

Beyond saving you money, and more importantly time, there are other benefits of this approach - which I will mention later

              TESTING A STRATEGY

              1. Get an account with BlogSpot.com or Wordpress.com or indeed any other free hosting service out there. Even better (if you already have hosting) create a testing website/blog on your own hosting account.

              2. You will use this account or website/blog to test strategies/methods (e.g. Vita's strategy).

              3. Implement the instructions word for word (as much as is possible).

              4. Do you get the results that you were told to expect?

              5. If you get good results - EUREKA! You have discovered a strategy that you can reuse over and over again.

5a. If you are feeling adventurous, you can try tweaking the strategy by adding your own personal tweaks.

              6. If the results do NOT stack up - EUREKA! You have saved yourself time and money that you would otherwise have wasted implementing this strategy.

6a. If you have the time, and are experienced - you may try tweaking certain aspects of the strategy to see if you can improve results.

If you do this consistently you will start to 'see' things for yourself. Things that nobody else sees. You will then be able to 'blindly' follow the oft misleading 'advice' of faceless individuals.

The fact is that most of the advice on the Internet is put out by people who have NOT implemented the ideas themselves, and have just regurgitated what they have read somewhere else.

The other benefit is that you will then be in a position to share your findings with others for free or for a fee.

Sometimes you will find yourself in a situation where you have make a choice between 2 or more strategies...

              CHOOSING A STRATEGY

A problem I have with IM is that many people want you to believe that it is either their way or the highway.

Fortunately for us, things in IM are NEVER just BLACK or WHITE. There are several shades of gray in between.

Let's face it... every strategy has cons!

The perfect strategy? It doesn't exist - except in the minds of self acclaimed Gurus.

Many strategies also have pros. HURRAY!

Let's say we have tested 2 hypothetical strategies A & B, and our testing gives us the following exaggerated results:

              Strategy A
              Pros
              1. Can be implemented in 4 hour hours.
              2. Does not require any upfront investment.

              Cons.
              1. Is a short-term strategy - results last for only 4 weeks.
              2. It is easily saturated

              Would you choose:
              A. Just A4?
              B. Just B4?
              C. Neither A4 or B4?
              D. Both A4 and B4?

These are hypothetical strategies with highly exaaggerated pros, cons and earnings. What I have tried to show is that most people (I think), will make the same choice for each of the scenarios 1-4, but that each for individual person their answer for scenario 1 is likely to be different from scenario 2, 3 and 4; and same for scenario 2.

In reality though, the differences between competing strategies are unlikely to be as clear-cut as I have made them. And this means that different people will make different choices for the same scenaario - simply because people have different goals, priorities, resources, desires etc.

That is why in the investment world you have all kinds of investors coexisting from day traders to people like Warren Buffet that invest for decades; from Gold speculators to Oil Hedgers; from Forex traders to Index arbitrageurs.

The point I am trying to make is that choice doesn't always have to be an 'EITHER OR' affair. It could sometimes be 'NEITHER' or even 'BOTH'.

Also, the fact that someone else has made a choice that is different from yours - doesn't make them wrong and you right; or them right and you wrong.

If a strategy stops yielding the results you expect - don't be afraid to drop it and move on to something else. Or it might just be that you need to tweak it a little bit.

              One final word...

If you choose to implement 2 or more strategies it is best to implement them one after the other - instead of implementing all of them at the same time. The reason I say this is that FOCUS is probably the most important attribute that you need in this game.

So test different strategies, choose, implement and FOCUS on one strategy at a time, don't fall in love with any one strategy. After you finish implementing one strategy - you can happily move on to another strategy that produced favourable test results.

I hope somebody finds this useful.

I have no absolutely problem with you questioning the strategy. It is Vita's strategy, so he can respond to your questions if he wants to.

Personally, I am not interested in proving anything to you, so let me just say this...

                1. For several months now, my participation on this Forum has been mainly restricted to responding to questions and comments on my WSO threads.

                2. I only participated in this thread in response to a PM by Ian - who specifically asked me to give information about my product, which I did without placing any links.

                3. I have responded to questions and comments about my product in this thread when I thought it was necessary to do so.

                4. Until you became involved, my only other involvement in this thread had been to correct the erroneous impression that Vita's strategy constituted plagiarism. This was for the benefit of the person that made the comment, as well as for others reading the thread.

                5. Your first contribution to the thread was to comment that the strategy is deeply flawed. I did not respond to your comment. Like I said I have no interest in proving anything, more so this is Vita's strategy and thread.

                6. Your second contribution was to respond to my earlier post mentioned in 4 (above)... a post which was NOT directed at you. Your response was to make a negative personal comment by claiming that my post was totally false.

                7. I asked you what was false let alone totally false - you did NOT answer that question.

                8. Instead you made other comments which I did NOT respond to.

                9. I then (tongue in cheek) told Vita that he should not spill the beans.

                10. Even though the comment mentioned in 9 above was NOT directed at you, you made another negative personal comment by claiming that I was constantly mentioning my product.

                11. When I asked you to point out where I had done so - you did NOT.

Is anyone noticing a trend here? I respond to someone else (NOT you), and you make a negative personal comment which you fail to back up.

I am at a complete loss to understand why you deem it necessary to do this.:confused::confused:

                12. About Vita agreeing with you... he never actually disagreed with you in the first place - about the need for backlinks that is, and didn't actually change his position.

That is part of the reason I don't get involved in these debates. It is pointless having a debate - when the starting position of the different protagonists has NOT been established.

                13. If you knew my starting position - we wouldn't be having this discussion. Anyone who is familiar with my work would know my strong and controversial views on the insignificance of content in achieving rankings in Google. And yet here I am being taken to task & being asked to provide evidence by someone who thinks I am suggesting that (quoting you): 'copying content' will make anyone rank.

                14. From the very beginning, I stated that I will not engage in a debate with you. I said that because I knew it was a 'storm in a teacup'. I could tell that you simply did NOT know how far apart or close our individual views are.

                15. That is why I was astounded when your response to my statement that 'the trick is knowing when and how to leverage Duplicate Content effectively' - was to claim that the statement was totally false.

The key words in that statement were highlighted: when and how.

                16. If you had asked me what I meant by the when and how (and if I had responded) - then you would have been in a much better position to make judgement. Instead, you preferred to make a blanket claim.

                17. If you had asked me what I meant by the when and how (and if I had responded)- then you probably wouldn't need to ask me for evidence.

                18. I am happy for you to disagree with or dispute my opinions - and if you notice I have never challenged you for doing so. I don't expect or want everyone to agree with me.

                19. What I am NOT happy with is negative personal comments, especially when you do NOT back them up.

                20. I was actually happy to contribute to Vita's thread, but with this kind of negativity - I might be better of withdrawing back into my little shell.

                21. As has been the trend in this thread, there'll be no need for me to respond to you unless another negative personal comment is made.

                22. So you are very welcome to have the last word.

Whoah Oz. I have answered all your questions so please do not start with claiming I haven't. the failure is not on my part. On the matter of referring to a product why should I state anything further? You have already admitted to referring to it several times plus the only thing you are almost exclusively focusing on defending here is the one option that relates to the product.

As for the totally false statement - I stand by it. Scroll up and look at the context "sites that Google loves". So is it not false to claim that there is always a place for duplicate content in relationship to building sites that Google loves WHEN GOOGLE DOES NOT LIKE DUPLICATE CONTENT SITES? Context Oz . Google does not love duplicate content scraped sites so its wrong to claim that there always is a place for it in building sites that they love.

So you are very welcome to have the last word.
this is about the fourth time I've read it was your last post. So I doubt it but at this point the first and only derailment is happening so I won't respond to your other "points".

                  back on topic -
Yes I think creating a site with all duplicate content is flawed and I don't know anyone who ranks sites for a living for others that doesn't think it is. Given that Google is already active about removing duplicate content from results (again not penalty) there really isn't that much sense to building a business model on only duplicate content.

No no no no. ARGHH........ Stop the insanity!

None of those sites rank because they have duplicate content and none of them are authorities because of it. They rank because they have tons of backlinks. thousands of marketers link to ezinearticles, press release sites and etc etc. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DUPLICATE CONTENT WORKING FOR THOSE SITES.

No one is talking about duplicate content penalties if that is what you think. We are saying that getting a whole lot of duplicate content does nothing NADA special for your site. It does not create a site that people say "hey I want to link there." in any great quantity and therefore you really cannot say that google loves them.

And I was getting great traffic to those articles without even building any backlink myself.
Article directories always get traffic just by the sheer fact that marketers use and share (read link) them so again nothing to do with duplicate content. the content is not attracting most of the traffic the service is to begin with . Thats what makes article directories completely separate from the sites you are talking about. Its apples and oranges.

Personally I have no problem in using WPEC to build my sites and show others how I do it. It works and it's not theory.
I'll say the same thing that I said to OZ. Stop using anecdotal evidence that no one can verify. put up the site that is ranking (for a competitive term not some weak term) because it has huge gobs of scraped content. I'm betting that it still comes down to backlinks to your site and not some magic of massive duplicate content.

All of your examples are off base. All of them get massive backlinks from the people using them not those just there to read the content. Frankly this is the latest craze that is just emptying peoples pockets. Develop a wordpress plugin say it by itself can get you ranking on google and everyone buys the magic pill and still does not rank at the top of Google for any noteworthy search result.

Need some evidence guys. Thats all I am saying.

@Mike Anthony Thanks added. I misunderstood you, sorry for that. I totally agree with what you said. It's not BECAUSE of the content we put on our sites that we get traffic, it's thanks to the backlinks that we create. NO DOUBT.

But isn't it {easier|faster|cheaper} to use content written by someone else and only work on the backlinking?

We are not creating sites that will get mouth advertising here. We are creating niche sites with a lot of relevant content to make money with affiliate programs / adsense and to build our lists. Nothing more.

For building TRUE authority sites that get bookmarked and recommended nothing can replace unique content.

For the love of pete Why? You just gave yourself the answer. You once had an article directory site that just because it offered something real got backlinks without you having to run them down. so sure use someone elses content to help out but whats so wrong about adding some unique content/service so that people want to come back?

As a regular in the SEO/adsense section there sure is a whole lot of crying every few months when google starts throwing people sites (your business) right out the door because they consider the sites garbage. Do a search in that section and you'll fine people who have been ready to jump out windows when their MFAs got cleaned out.

Incidentally going into 2011 if you play your cards right you don't have to create all your content. Everything is going community oriented and just facilitating that lets the community create content - original at that.

But hey we at WF should know that by now.

P.S. Don't make it be missed that I am all for the first two suggestions in your tutorial and said so. Still good stuff.

        Who is Pete?

About the backlinks - when I build this kind of niche websites I NEVER wait to get them naturally. I want to rank now not in X months or years. So I build the links myself and start another batch of sites. Much easier and faster.

Who said anything about waiting. You can build them put in a little decent content so that adsense doesn't kick you to the curb when they do reviews and move on. Its not an either or thing. Its just not going with pure borrowed content garbage from article sites that already these days have some low quality stuff to begin with even before they were spun.

One thing I never quite understood about adsense people around here - Why do they never take repeat traffic into consideration? Some of the top earners in adsense don't give a rip about new traffic. they make the bulk of their money from return traffic and I'll bet WF is one of them in that regard as well.

Hi everyone. For those of you who don't see related searches on the side, try looking at the bottom just below the search results. Thats where mine is but i also use google chrome browser. There are however for me only 8 results. Oh and just out of curiosity has anyone ever used or needed the Time Line search below the wonder wheel option.

No it will not pass the copyscape test. Copyscape checks groups of 4 or 5 consecutive words and since WPEC uses content from the article directories you will find plenty of similar sentences.

But the way copyscape works and the search engine bots work is completely different. Copyscape is used to find plagiarized articles. Search engines CANNOT be as restrictive as copyscape or else they would filter thousands of thousands of legit pages.

About adsense, it all depends on what you do with your site. You can have 10 original articles and get banned from the adsense program if your site has no other goal than making money from adsense. If a site has no other reason to exist than adsense then the account is at risk.

To stay on the safe side I ALWAYS put something else than just adsense on my new MFA sites like an optin box.

Also you must have a privacy page where you enter the google adsense cookie policy. Without this you will get banned if you have a human editor reviewing your site.

        Hey SMS.

I was wondering about the 'when and how to leverage it effectively' when you first mentioned it and I was hoping the mystery would have been revealed.

So I'll just ask: Would you receptive to shedding some light on the 'when and how'?

I for one am very curious!

Thanks for contributing to an interesting thread.

              Vita -

You said you'd address at least one other method to get around the "no relative searches" problem. Then you mentioned the other thing about duplicate content and that's all anyone has talked about ever since.

What's the "related searches" alternative? Please!

Thank you! It's a wonderful tutorial and I'd just like to get that final piece.

  • I, also, noticed that the related searches option wasn't showing up.

In one sense, I think it's kinda cool that people are complaining about it. You get to see who is actually trying Vita's system instead of just reading it before moving on the the next quick fix.

btw - Vita. Great little tutorial. Simple and it works. As a karma benefit, you are totally in line with with reality--in other words, the simple good things in life are free.

    Thank you.

Good work. How much cash is that article making right now?

Instead of an article directory try making wee little blog posts of your own using the different keywords as a long-tail base.

    Make sure to write a story;

My name is Betty F. and I live in Columbus Ohio and I'm looking for some decent bowling shoes for a reasonable price. Can you help me? I don't have much money and I love spending time down at the bowling alley with my friends. Bla bla bla....

Even a small little post like that will be seen as very original to Google. Short works just fine as long as you are telling a story. Why? Search "Columbus Ohio and I'm looking for some decent" - NO results.

So then along comes someone in Columbus Ohio that types in "decent bowling shoes for reasonable price" and they're ALL YOURS BABY!

Google see the users regional stats, and will direct them to sites that mention their area. That is why I do all my blogs focused on a particular State.

I would stop spending time on Article Marketing domains all together.

Another source that has not been mentioned is the power of comments. Placing keywords in your comments is also a very good thing to do. Comments are unique content and can really be used to help rank for keywords.

Do not overpopulate comments with keywords and make them sound unnatural but adding a few keywords every so often does help.

Sometimes I even add the post title within one or two comments if I am in a hurry, but it is better to work the keywords into the comments naturally.

I also paste the Webpage with the article into Google's External Keyword tool to find optional keywords to target and work into the content and the comments. This is after the article is published of course.

Updating comments and content is a good thing.
Of course you have to allow comments on your site for this to work.

The more comments that your pages receive and that contain keywords relative to your content the higher page rank your individual pages will receive over time.

Thanks Vitavee for your very useful tutorial and follow up comments. I must admit to initially siding with the concerns of sitefurnace but now feel that your technique is definitely worth a try.

As I understand it, Google rewards a site for it's combination of relevant content, back links (their value more than the number) and visitor numbers as well as other factors such as a silo content structure etc.

I bought an article re-writer tool (that seems to be a lot more time consuming than Vitavee's approach) which just helps to say the same thing in different combinations of letters so ultimately, from an "ethical" perspective, (if that word is allowed here)undertaking Vitavee's method at least provides some clearly unique content.

Perhaps this method would be more effective if one were to shorten the original articles before attaching the new paragraphs so that the new additions carried more keyword weight.
A link to the full unabridged article/s kept on another "library" page should address any "article use" issues.??

No, I did this just to show the difference between the header, the article and the footer. But on your blogs don't do this.

I don't see any problem with shortening the articles and adding a "read more" link but you should 1st check with the TOS of the different directories where you pick the articles from.

The "Related Searches" option has disappeared from the Google side bar for a few days now... Don't let this stop you, there are many other ways to find related topics by using Google.

    Here is one of them:

    1/ Go to Google Sets

2/ Enter your primary keyword at least twice as shown on the screenshot below (entering it three, four or five times will give you slightly different results, worth a try)

3/ Look at the results and pick a few related topics that "sound" good as shown below:

Note that I have added an "s" at the end of "Bowling league" because it would sound weird to create a theme for 1 and only 1 bowling league. Instead, the article topics for this theme would be about several leagues so using the plural is better.

At the bottom of the results from Google's Standard View, there is a heading:

In this short tutorial we're going to see how to build a powerful niche website that Google loves.

In this example, we're going to pursue the "bowling balls" niche. This tutorial is not about market research or keyword research so I won't explain how and why I have decided to target this niche.

When you want to build a new website, the first thing to do is to find related and relevant themes in the eyes of Google. Ideally you should start a new niche website with a minimum of 10 articles and add new articles on a regular basis.

Now the question is: "How to find relevant themes in the eyes of Google?"

Let Google tell us... Type "bowling balls" in the search box and submit your query. Then make sure to disable the instant results by selecting "Instant is off":

Then click on "More search tools" like in the screenshot below:

Then click on "Related searches" in the left sidebar:

If you don't believe me, watch this video where I have proved this once and for all:
Easy Video Player » PART 5 Checking The Competition

    Article Topics

We now need to find the topics for the articles that are going to populate our site.

Let's build a list of related keywords for our 6 themes.

First - this Adwords tool gives us much more data and ideas. And secondly both teams are very competent and their results tend to be the same, or at least very similar).

Select the language and country you're targeting, enter your 1st theme in the keyword box, check the "Only show ideas closely related to my search terms" option, enter the captcha code if any and click on the search button.

Then make sure the returned keywords are sorted by Relevance and select a minimum of 3 keywords (5 being better) that are not TOO similar. For example if you look at the ones I selected below, I didn't take "discount bowling balls" because it is too similar to "cheap bowling balls".

Also when you do this, do NOT take the search volume and the competition level into account. The article topics we are selecting now are going to help us build a website ULTRA relevant to the main keyword we are targeting, so competition level is not an issue at all at this stage.

Let's do the same thing for the other themes... (I won't show you screenshots as it's exactly the same process).

My list of article topics is:

    Bowling balls:
    • bowling balls for sale
    • cheap bowling balls
    • custom bowling balls
    • storm bowling balls
    • kids bowling balls
    Bowling shoes:
    • cheap bowling shoes
    • dexter bowling shoes
    • kids bowling shoes
    • bowling shoes for women
    • linds bowling shoes
    Bowling games:
    • free bowling games
    • bowling games online
    • bowling games for kids
    • fun bowling games
    • 3d bowling games
    Bowling shirts:
    • retro bowling shirts
    • custom bowling shirts
    • cheap bowling shirts
    • bowling shirts for men
    • vintage bowling shirts
    Bowling tips:
    • bowling tips and techniques
    • bowling tips for beginners
    • bowling tips video
    • fast bowling tips
    • bowling tips from the pros
    Bowling bags:
    • bowling bags on sale
    • cheap bowling bags
    • bowling bags with wheels
    • storm bowling bags
    • brunswick bowling bags

    Adding Content to Our Site

We now need to create articles for these topics and publish them on our site.
We basically have 3 different options:

Option 1: Write the articles ourselves
Option 2: Pay someone to write the articles
    Option 3: Leverage free content

Options 1 & 2 are pretty straightforward so I will not cover them here. They are the BEST options if you have enough money or time to invest.

However option 3 is also very powerful if done correctly. And this is what we are going to cover here.

    Leveraging Free Content

What we are going to do is take articles already published on article directories. We will NOT break the TOS of those article directories as we will let the author boxes intact with the links made active.

But what we are going to do is add a block of unique text above and a block of unique text below those articles.

Let me show you this for the 1st topic of the "bowling balls" theme.

The topic is "bowling balls for sale".

So we go to Google and type this in the search box:

    Bowling balls for sale site:ezinearticles.com

You can do this with other article directories. What it does is return the most relevant articles for your search term from and only from the site that is after the site: command. So in our example it will return all the articles that are relevant to "Bowling balls for sale" and that are published on ezinearticles.com

The 1st one in the results being considered the most relevant one by Google.

As you can see it's not 100% relevant to what we want. If you are not satisfied with the result, just repeat this search with other article directories.

Let's do this with goarticles.com for example.

This one looks much better. We now need to take this article. Almost all the article directories allow you to download those articles easily. On goarticles.com just click on "Publish article":

It allows you to copy the article with the HTML tags already placed where needed.

We then have to add a header and a footer around this article to make it unique (well not completely unique but unique enough to be able to rank that page more easily). Adding a header and a footer will also allow us to add our topic's keyword making it even more optimized than the original article.

Here is how it would look like (note that I'm not a writer and furthermore I'm French so I apologize if my header / footer blocks are crappy - it's just an example):

Finding a bowling ball that fits your style is not always an easy task. You need to find one with a good weight, not too heavy, not too light, with holes big enough and spaced well enough for your fingers.

You can of course just use the bowling balls put at your disposal in the bowling clubs but you would then have to content yourself on what is available which could handicap you.

On the other hands bowling balls for sale are often quite expensive. If you have the budget though, don't hesitate to purchase your own ball as it would definitely help you being a better bowler. I have found this article from John Tasher that could also give you a few ideas:

Did you notice that John had a link titled bowling balls for sale? I didn't check his site but maybe he offers good prices.

Anyway I hope you liked this article. You can also read our other articles if you need to find some good bowling balls (NOTE: and here you put a link to your bowling balls category).

I wrote those header and footer blocks very quickly. I didn't have to make any research, I just wrote what I thought without knowing anything about the topic.

The advantage of this approach is that it allows you to build sites pretty quickly without having to pay for content. You just leverage the content that has already been written by other experts.

You of course have to do this for ALL the article topics that you have found in the steps above but I can guarantee that it's much faster than writing the articles yourself and much cheaper than paying someone for writing them for you!

Hope you liked this short tutorial, if you have any question don't hesitate to ask.

    UPDATE 2011/01/08

The "Related Searches" option has disappeared from the Google side bar for a few days now... Don't let this stop you, there are many other ways to find related topics by using Google.

I have posted one of those methods here.
Wow, thank you so much for this post!

Btw should the url be something like bowlingballs.com or do you just dive into bowlingballs.com

I just received an email from "Inside Adsense" regarding:
AdSense Facts & Fiction Part V: Unoriginal Content

In a nutshell, here's what the folks at Google are saying about monetizing with AdSense and using others content:

Fiction: Publishers can put ads on auto-generated pages or other copied content that was not created by them.

Fact: We don't allow sites with auto-generated or otherwise unoriginal content to participate in the AdSense program. This is to ensure that our users are benefiting from a unique online experience and that our advertisers are partnering with useful and relevant sites.
From the Webmaster's Tools help, I came across this:

Scraped content: Some webmasters make use of content taken from other, more reputable sites on the assumption that increasing the volume of web pages with random, irrelevant content is a good long-term strategy. Purely scraped content, even from high-quality sources, may not provide any added value to your users without additional useful services or content provided by your site. It's worthwhile to take the time to create original content that sets your site apart. This will keep your visitors coming back and will provide useful search results.
I'm no expert interpreting the finer points of what's legit or not in Google's eyes, but use caution if you value your AdSense account and want to keep it.

      For what it's worth!

Believe me hard facts like this do not matter to those who sell these things or to those who jump up and buy it. If someone says that you can install a plugin and have near instant success then that thing will thrive in IM.

So though I think what you post is EXTREMELY valuable and worth it the sellers and proponents of it will find some excuse to claim it isn't a fact but a conspiracy and many of those buying the fantasy will ignore it anyway and go on merrily trusting it because its nice believing in the fantasy (which is really so much of what is being sold) .

Oh and its not just Google saying so. Every now and again we have long threads in the SEO section with people complaining about being banned from adsense and their income being tanked in a single day. nothing to do with penalties or fooling the engines. they wer e all booted by manual reviews.

Hrmmmm ... interesting ... it was a bit baffling to read this guys story

        http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post3416818

and see how 48k pages were being built, then squaring that up against this thread - and the above Adsense TOS.

something aint right somewhere with these two stories.

Oh yes definitely. The OP lays out some good stuff and the first two options are solid. Plus SOME duplicate content is fine just as long as its not entirely scraped content even for adsense.

      Hi Chris,

I have a number of directories with Adsense that auto load with articles from UAW.

I wonder if you would share the other monetizing source because I'm worried now after reading this thread.

I have an Adsense plugin that loads the ads automatically, to do it manually would take years because each site has many thousands of articles up, I'm talking 15,000 +

      Cheers,

To those if you who can't see the related searches.....

I don't see the link in the sidebar and I could not see them at the bottom of the page. I'm on a wireless connection.

On another computer in the house that is on a dial-up connection, I could see the related searches at the bottom of the page but still not see the link in the sidebar.

I cleared my cache, cookies and search history on the computer that's on the wireless connection and now I can see the related searches at the bottom. So I'm guessing it's a cookie issue and not the type of connection.

Hope that might help some of you to see them.

No, you will have different blocks of text, just select the ones you want to use for each post. Look at the options in the "import" screen.

I have customized my install of the plugin to make the random option work like I want, so it's random between different posts but the randomness is based on the post id so refreshing a page doesn't affect the content.

Here is how I did this:

1/ In the plugin editor of wordpress, open the file WPEC/classes/wp_posts.class.php

      2/ Search for the line:

      PHP Code:
      static function get_title_value_block() {
3/ Add this just below that line:

      PHP Code:
      srand( $ post_id);
(remove the space between the $ and the post_id. When I remove it here the code disappears...)

That's it! Now you can keep it to random without the refresh problem

Very good suggestions, do you have a specific strategy to have your visitors comment on your posts?

That's true, many people only want to take money, no matter if they ruin the business of someone else.

That being said I hope you hadn't WPEC in mind or myself when you wrote this

Because I didn't mention adsense anywhere in my original post. Someone asked me how I was monetizing the sites I was building with this plugin and I said that I was building lists and promoting affiliate products.

is there a connection between the two beyond you using WPEC? If not then No I didn't have you in mind. I obviously am not a fan of WPEC as there are much better ways of doing what it does (and cheaper) if it were even good to go this route. I had in mind all products and proponents of doing sites with entirely duplicate content. Seriously why does focus always come back to this one product? Sometime this thread feels like A WSO for it. In your Op it is stated under the third option not even the top two.

Because I didn't mention adsense anywhere in my original post. .
No you mentioned adsense in post #83 as a good reason to use mainly duplicate content and I tried to relate to you twice why that was not a good idea but granted posting the google rules was more effective. Generally though people are ignoring the rules so I guess we will have people crying in the adsense SEO section again this year when they are banned.

By having good content, asking for comments, and making it fairly painless for the visitors to comment, works for me.

Asking questions sometimes gets responses fairly fast too.

I sometimes use my spam folder and rewrite the content of the comments and change the names and email addresses, if I need some more comments to bolster the keywords I am using. This is not white hat but it works as long as it is not all of your comments that are created this way.

This thread would've been amazing had it not been so creepily tainted by certain product plugs. Ian's innocent little "invite" of a plugin merchant would be hysterical if so many didn't certainly get burned. This plugin is a waste of money - you can do it, as others have said, for free, and even original content without too much trouble or expense. In short:

The methodology is solid, thanks vitavee.

          So Vitavee,

you said that we do not have to take into account the competition and search volume in the themes we chose because we are only building relevant content, so that part is clear.

Now for example when you write the content for BOWLING SHOES which is
          • cheap bowling shoes
          • dexter bowling shoes
          • kids bowling shoes
          • bowling shoes for women
          • linds bowling shoes
do you link every page to to the main page (bowling balls) or do you link this specific themed content to the bowling shoes page and then that page to your main one???

The reason I ask is because i want to know if I should interlink the themed pages or just place the themed content on the site and not link them together. This is in the event that we need the themed content to link back to our main keywords for better seo authority.

This is an excellent technique and show how to structure our sites by having relevant categories and topics for articles. The next part is link building. Building links is very essential and we should not completely rely on site structure and onpage SEO in order to achieve good rankings.

Can you give us ideas on the best approaches for building links to such sites? By best approach I mean those link building methods which do not cost a lot in terms of money or time, which can be automated to a certain extent and which can provide a lot of SEO value in long term.

Thanks again for your useful post.

I have a question relating to the use of these related keywords and categories that all have 'bowling' or 'bowling ball' in. It's been my feeling that this kind of over-optimisation for keywords is not as effective as it once was (was it Google Sniper that popularised this? I forget) and could even signal to the SEs that you are just sniping keywords and possibly damage your site from an SEO point of view. I think an important aspect of this, which I think the OP mentioned, was not to look at search volume and competition too hard. Could Google conclude from an analysis of your site's keywords that you are over-optimised for high-value/-volume keywords? Could be... Anyway, I would emphasise the importance of avoiding repeating the main site keyword/s in EVERY category and on EVERY page and ensure a good, wider spread of RELATED keywords, as the OP said. What do people think?

      • cheap bowling shoes
      • dexter bowling shoes
      • kids bowling shoes
      • bowling shoes for women
      • linds bowling shoes
do you link every page to to the main page (bowling balls) or do you link this specific themed content to the bowling shoes page and then that page to your main one???

The reason I ask is because i want to know if I should interlink the themed pages or just place the themed content on the site and not link them together. This is in the event that we need the themed content to link back to our main keywords for better seo authority.
No I don't link all the articles to their parent theme and I don't link them either to my homepage.

I use this free plugin to interlink the pages between them ala wikipedia.

Can you give us ideas on the best approaches for building links to such sites? By best approach I mean those link building methods which do not cost a lot in terms of money or time, which can be automated to a certain extent and which can provide a lot of SEO value in long term.

Thanks again for your useful post.
Hi Anwar, well that's a question that deserves another tutorial

Basically what you have to do is:

1/ Get links from as many KIND of websites as possible (web2, blogs, forums, news etc...)

2/ Build links to those links.

If you want to build a site about bowling balls it's better to cover other topics that are not all about bowling balls (but nothing wrong if they are all about bowling eventhough a site that would also cover golfing balls, tennis balls etc... could outrank you - would look like a more authoritative site than yours).

That being said nothing wrong if your site is all about bowling and nothing else.

Example: search for cow clothes on google.

Site at #1 position has the word "cow" in all its pages I think. It covers cow clothing, cow toys, cow cards etc...

That's a perfect example of my "bowling ball" tutorial.

    Guys,

the principle behind it has MORE ramifications than only for site structure, categories and so forth...

Google's Wonderwheel is really the key here and its value is PRICELESS!

You enter a search term and see very closely related and relevant terms to a keyword. Now - you want to have those related keywords on your site (categories etc.)....but ALSO use them in your link building and articles.

The good thing, it's so simple you dont even need expensive software.

Enter main KW in Google, get related keywords. Write some articles for the related KWs and then link back using the keywords to your site's category pages and/or articles. Sooner or later you will have an authority site with a VERY GOOD chance to rank for the keywords one level higher even!

    @vitavee: Great Job!

I'm not sure how I've missed this for 2 months, but your post is very well done and its obvious to me you have a teacher's heart (do you need a job?) just kidding...

Your concept echoes what I've learned from a Warrior I admire and respect, Lisa Parmley, and her excellent inlineSEO course material, so you are spot-on with your suggestions here and you've managed to condense and illustrate it very well.

The part that is usually missing from any method, are user-friendly tools to pull it off without writing everything from scratch.

If the reader will combine the research methods illustrated here with the right authority site builder, leveraging technology to automate themed/silo'd/categorized sites... welcome to the holy grail of IM :-)

    Well done...

    Hi great thread.

Are you making the author credit links nofollow at all?

Also, once you add about 10 of these leveraged content articles. Is it alright to keep adding these sort of articles to your website or should unique content soon follow?

Very interesting read, thanks for posting the link to that thread. Jim has been leveraging this content very well it seems. I guess it's quite difficult for Google to apply all the rules mentioned in their TOS for technical reasons.

I keep them dofollow except if they are using the keywords I want to rank for

That's a good thing actually because if you build quality sites you will almost always benefit from their "upgrades".

With the latest "farmer" update I didn't get any of my sites that got slapped, I even had one of them jumping to about 1,500 visits per day while it was at about 1,000 a day before the update.

    Hello all-

This is my first post on the forum. Lots of awesome information here.. I run an e-commerce site that has been online for over 15 years, and I am constantly working on keeping our SEO, mostly organic, competitive.

I love the original posters guide, this is great information for building a site from scratch. Has anyone written something similar to use these tools to enhance SEO on a site that has been around for a while?

For instance, I already have set categories and subcategories for my products.

Could I take one of my main navigation categories, search that term in Google, identify related searches that have terms that I can use, then run them through the Keyword tool to help out my subcategories?

Just curious.. any feedback would help tremendously.

    Thanks!
    G

I too would be interested in knowing if sites built in the manner suggested are holding up after Google implemented the latest version of their WMC (Weapon Of Mass Confusion), i.e., Panda update.

Although this guide gives an example of highly targeted structure of some website about "bowling shoes", don't underestimate the power of the competition. Unique content, good website structure and optimization will not give your website high rankings if there are other competing sites around...

However, quality backlinks should help to do the trick ...
