In theory this should work. If you look at backlinking software such ae SENuke, Sic Submitter etc they all having a pinging module for the purpose of getting their forum backlinks indexed by Google.

In my experience however, it doesn't work, or at least it doesn't work that well. Forum profile links are hard to index. Some will be found naturally and some will never be found even if you ping them 1 million times.

A better alternative would be to turn the links into an RSS feed and then to submit the feed to RSS directories or backlink the feed on Elgg sites. Or you might set up a blog that you use to get them indexed.

If this is on a small scale then actually participating on the forum will get your profile indexed faster than anything else.

When you ping, search engines are notified about that profile but they decide weather to index it or not depends on the 'weight' of the profile. Some indexing tools work so as to increase the 'weight' of the profiles
You can't make a profile get indexed just by pinging.

Well, even though Profile pages are crawled by search engines but i think they are not of much importance in terms of SEO. Many webmaster just try to register new forums for gathering profile backlinks which rarely have any PR. We should concentrate more on quality backlinks rather then quantity.

Don't bother much on pinging, there are many other important things that worth your time or money much more than pinging. Even though you don't ping, google will find your profiles that deserve to be indexed. However by pinging you may make google know about few of those profiles 1-3 days ahead (no more than that) but it does not have a significant advantage compared to the risk behind it when you do bulk pinging.

How To Index Your Link 101

1. Go to icerocket.com and sign up
2. Click on Rss Builder
3. Click on Add Channel and give that channel a name related to your niche website you have been building links to.
4. Then click on add item. This will take you to a page, where you input the URL of a forum profile where you left your links.
5. Do this for 20 entries i.e 20 more Forum profiles.
6. Then click on Publish.
7. Then copy the URL in the first box. URL will start like this
http: //rss.icerocket .com/ xmlfeed..... ((sorry can't post links yet))
8. Then take that URL and ping it at pingomatic.com and pingoat.net
9. Also bookmark that URL at Digg, Reddit, Propeller, MisterWong, and a couple RSS bookmarking places
10. Also URL to Google Blog Search Ping

I get a few profile backlinks from this but it's nothing amazing. You can also use this on other backlinks besides profiles.
