Anyone else want to SLIT THEIR WRISTS over Google AdWords?

I've absolutely had it with Google AdWords. And after searching WF there doesn't seem to be enough of a collective rant when they just won't play ball.

I've not yet been able to give them a penny or test how well AdWords may work for my product.

Originally, they explained that my site had been banned because the "category" it's in (weight loss) has been subject to a lot of user complaints about misleading claims. I can certainly believe that looking at all the horse**** out there in this niche.

But my site was not making any misleading claims. There were email exchanges about this, resulting in a lot of nothing. Since that original dialogue however, for a variety of reasons, I rebranded and relaunched the landing page, it is now more informative, there is no opt in, everything is as transparent as I feel it can possibly be. It gives some free basic advice and then says, if you want more here's an ebook. It couldn't be more honest, unless I am deluding myself here?

This is what happened next:

===GAW to me:===

Thank you for your email. I appreciate your efforts in complying with our landing page and site policies. However, I have re-reviewed your site and I can confirm that it still violates our landing page and site policy of Misleading Claims.

Although, your site does not make any exaggerated claims, it does not give a very clear picture of exactly what is it that your are offering. Your site also does not mention the risks involved in the usage of your product.

As mentioned in my previous emails I would advice you to make appropriate changes to your site such that it does not violate our landing page and site policy I appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

===Me to GAW:===

Firstly I am glad you now agree that the site does not make any exaggerated claims, so that is progress.

However, respectfully, the rest of what you are saying simply is not true:

1. "It does not give a very clear picture of exactly what is it that your are offering." It does in fact explain in detail (in text and video) what the product for sale is (an eBook) and what its contents are. I don't know how you can see this is not the case.

2. "Your site also does not mention the risks involved in the usage of your product." That is because, unlike a lot of products in the weight loss market that are medical by nature, there are no risks in using this product because it is just an ebook. The site states that the offer is in fact risk-free several times, by nature of the moneyback guarantee offered. The site also advises users to "consult your doctor or professional health advisor before acting on any of the opinions in the book" just to be safe. So again I believe what you are saying really makes no sense at all.

Please let me know who else I can talk to to escalate this query, as this is now beyond frustrating.

It is also frankly insulting that sites mine, which are simply selling an honest ebook, would be turned down by AdWords when I just did a search for weight loss on Google and one of the sponsored ads was for this site: [URL REMOVED] whose entire construction is misleading from top to bottom (fake links, fake reporter, fake comments, fake testimonials, fake site etc... hence the huge disclaimer) and also mentions nothing about the very real risks of using this expensive medical product.

===GAW to me:===

Thank you for your email. I apologise for frustration you are experiencing. As per your request I have escalated your site for review by our specialist. You will receive an email from me shortly regarding the result.

I appreciate your patience during the evaluation process.

===GAW to me:===

Thank you for your email. Our specialist have reviewed your site and they have confirmed that your site still is in violation of our landing page and site policy.

Your site violates our policy of Misleading Claims. As you know, we are committed to making the AdWords experience safe and effective for our users and our advertisers. We disabled your AdWords account after a review of your landing page quality evaluations because we believe that this kind of poor-quality site creates a seriously negative or possibly harmful user experience. The decision to disable your AdWords account was not taken lightly.

Obviously this is like banging my head against a brick wall.

I can't tell how much of this guy's emails are automated and how much have any human brain logic applied whatsoever. It certainly doesn't seem like much. Or maybe he's as embarrassed as anyone to be churning out this "support" within a broken approval framework he has no control or authority over.

I mean jesus I've had a few annoying moments and inconsistent approvals with FB ads but it always gets worked out in the end...

I know that many in the IM world have had their issues with being Google Slapped or whatever.

But this just seems so counterintuitive, so unhelpful, so frustrating and just plain dumb.

Does anyone have any similar experience?

How do all those piss-poor obviously fake sites manage to stay on AdWords?

Is there some way to escalate elsewhere rather than emailing this robot?

Someone hold me? :'(

    They once disapproved an ad of mine because I was advertising free information. They wanted me to prove it was free. It's like, well, go to the site I am advertising, and the information is right there, free. There was no opt-in, no product for sale. I had articles on the site on the topic that could be read for free by anyone who visited the site. I'm not sure what more I could do to prove that it was free.

    I didn't fight it, though. I figured if they were too stupid to take my money, they probably didn't need it.

    Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

    Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

    Eventually, the support quality of all larger companies takes a drop when they get big enough. It's a shame it's happening to Google too.

    I can phone up eBay (as a mere 500 feedback seller) and get 1-1 support from someone knowledgeable and with the power to make things on my account happen who in the same country I'm in.

    So it's not just all big corporations. I think the likes of Google need to really take a look at their AdWords support. It is one thing having strict policies, that is their perogative. But communicating in this frustrating systemised manner without answering questions or addressing clearly defined arguments or concerns is not what you expect from a brand like this. It's astonishng, really.

    I don't know if they are becoming harder and harder to advertise with. The last few ads I tried were all rejected for 'not complying with terms' or something. They didn't actually state which term I didn't comply with so I'm not really sure what I did wrong with my ads. I just gave up, I can't be bothered trying when they are so picky and don't even tell you what you have actually done wrong. A couple of my ads I couldn't see where I'd violated any TOS at all - so bugger them, I don't have time to waste on Adwords!

    I submitted an ad to google, they said it didn't comply, I made changes and resubmitted it and baam they replied it still didn't comply and not to resubmit as I was never going to get another resubmit. I ask my partner in another country to try to get the ad on google and not a problem, approved in 4 hours. My website is now on the first page so I don't need them anymore. All I can say is google=brain dead bot.

    If you have a adwords certification there is a phone number you can call to bug them. They do have phone support, but only for the elite users.

      If you give me the number I won't say it was from you.

      I won't tell them it's me calling, either so I can HURL ABUSE DOWN THE PHONE!

        Joe,

        I had a adwords account where I was promoting a particular product that also made claims to provide an income opportunity.

        i ran the ads for about a year, than closed them off.

        two years later, i noticed that ALL of my other ads had been shut off.

        after going through exactly what you did (25 canned emails later) I still couldn't get a body or a manager to contact me and I was spending $3000 a month on ads!

        they couldn't care less...all they knew was this product had a bunch of complaints made about it and they slapped my entire account.

        I share your pain mate...
