New Web 2.0 accounts for each site

I am new to this whole thing though I've toyed with the idea of making a niche website in the past I've never moved on that notion... until about a week ago.

I am actually starting up two niche website using slightly different techniques just to see what I like better and what seems to get better results. So far only one is set up and I have begun getting a few back links (though I'm having trouble getting the back links indexed even after pinging....).

Anyway, I have a few questions, but my main one is this:
With websites like Blogger, Squidoo, etc that let you make more than one blog or lens or whatever per account, do you set up entirely new accounts for each niche site you are working on? Or do you just do it all on one account? Does this cause any kind of "footprint" that Google would see? It doesn't seem likely to me that Google would notice and have a problem at least if there are other links out there too, and it would definitely save time to have one account per site... but I wanted to make sure first.


The other question I have is about keywords. If I target a keyword "best electric blanket" (random example) will that also help my ranking for the keyword "electric blanket"? Basically, if the keyword I have in the anchor text of a link to my site includes a longtail keyword will it also help my ranking for the shorter keyword? Does this work for plurals too? (i.e. would optimization and backlinks for "electric blankets" also help rank for "electric blanket"?)

I look forward to seeing where this experiment takes me! I have already had my first affiliate sale on my new website. The morning of the fifth day after making the site, my Amazon account showed $7.70 earned. Nothing more in the couple days since then, but still exciting for my first real venture into making money online.

    It depends on the site. With most you could have just one account.

    You can make multiple Squidoo, Hub Pages, Blogger blogs, Google Sites, and an assortment of others that are specific to your niche(s).

    I have a blog post pointing to all the backlinking tools and resources that I use. It's my most recent post.

    The beauty of Hub Pages and Squidoo, in particular, is that you can make a nice income from both, especially Hub Pages. AND you can have backlinks to your main site too!

      Cool thanks! That is what I was hoping to hear. I wasn't necessarily looking forward to setting up multiple accounts on each site - especially if I continue building more sites in the future(which I probably will).




      I'm up to #17 so far in the Google SERPS Not a huge accomplishment considering I don't think it is a really competitive keyword(though I'm still learning to gauge that) but since I'm new to this it's exciting to watch it climb through the ranks. And the fact that I've really done very little to promote it so far gives me confidence that this could work! Now I am excited to see what happens when I start doing more social bookmarking and build a page on hubpages.com etc.

      Be sure to keep your Hubscore up if you write for HubPages. If it falls below 75, your hub's do-follow links will revert to no-follow links. On the brite side, the beauty of Web 2.0 properties is the fact that they present with a tremendous amount of search engine authority.

        That is very good to know. I actually have never done anything on hubpages before(though I'm getting ready to start setting up an account), so I have no idea how hard it is to get a score on there, but I'll keep in mind that I want to shoot for over 75 to get do follow links.
