Article marketing, does it work?

I am mostly SEO person, so it came to me as a huge surprise when I heard from a reliable source that somebody is making $1,000 a month from few articles on Squidoo and elsewhere. They even have a whopping conversion rate of 25%.

Now, I wrote few articles, placed them on Squidoo and HubPages, and whenever I go to check those articles, I could see that nobody read them. So I thought that the sole purpose of article is to provide yourself with a contextual link.

Apart from writing a good article, does one need to do anything else, like improve SE organic rankings or possibly 'fake' visitors to get higher on the lists of best read articles.

With ezinearticles and squidoo, you need to backlink them with the articles keyword. They will rise in serps fast and you will get a higher CTR. A little trick with ezine is that they show analytics for what keyword people type into Google to get to your article. So when you see all these extra long tails that you are ranking for, build some backlinks with that new anchor text and you will rank even stronger. Or write a new article on that newly found keyword that is bringing traffic.

Not sure you can do this with hubpages as some people are saying theyre accounts have been banned for excessive spam links pointing to their hubs. I cant imagine this being true but just a heads up.

I've been involved w/ article marketing for a while. Basically, you usually get a high ctr when you write or are selling a popular product. However, I've worked for businesses before where the subject material is boring - so I don't get a lot of people reading those articles at all.

However, what you need to do is to optimize your own articles. Do your KW analysis - once that is done, make sure the title of your article is the same as your KW phrase. Also, you might want to you that phrase a couple times within the body of the text.

One more thing. On hubpages - it allows you to make your own url - so make sure that is optimized as well.

Without SEO purposes, you still can generate traffic from the article marketing method. Make sure to have hundreds or even thousands of articles. More articles = more traffic = more sales.

Article marketing does work, but it's not easy. It takes a lot of time and work. To be honest I prefer to comment on high PR blogs to get back links. I try to write comments that are applicable to the post. This increases the chance that the webmaster will publish your comment.

This is what exactly I too do .Have a little research on the subject before you write a comment. It will definitely improve your back links.

i've had over 1200 visits to my site from 13 articles posted on elance in the past 12 months.

I've also had a dozen people publish my content on their sites...

article marketing is working for both my traffic and my backlinks!

but it does take time....although you can use tools or paid services to get your article to 100's of other article directories if you like - I would suggest doing a 70% spin on each article that you post to other directories.

If all you want is contextual backlinks, do something else. Aside from its SEO value, you can get actual real traffic with article marketing.

It can take some time and experimentation, but it's worth the wait.

Yes article marketing is the best way to do the advertise of your products and the website in the search engines. Also article marketing helps to boost the traffic and gives some backlinks from high PR article directories.

@junkdna - It depends if you are writing the article for backlink juice ( in which case content is largely irrelevant ) or mainly for direct traffic from the article itself ( in which case you need to do your keyword research ). Article Marketing does work but you won't always hit home-runs, that is the nature of the beast.

Writing an article and posting on eziene articles is very effective if it is timely and relevant. As a point, I have an article that I posted almost 3 years ago still pulling to my site. The article was based on a magazine article, but NOT plagiarized - and I gave proper credits. When I first posted the article, it accounted for nearly 30% of my traffic.

Unfortunately, I see a lot of crap articles being posted out there. If the article is crap, then the CTR will be low. Have someone read it and tell you if it was an easy read with proper grammar or a conversational tone. If that is the case, post and start writing the next article. The more you write, the better your writing gets.

You can make money from article marketing. It can also be relatively easy but you MUST do your keyword research. You must find low competiton keywords that get a nice flow of traffic every month.
I'll do this every time I post an article to Squidoo or Ezinearticles.

I great tip would also be to write an article at Ezinearticles and then write an article at Squidoo but in the Squidoo article you should have a link back to your Ezinearticle. If you do this it will be very easy to rank in the first spot at google for your keywords! I'll do this a lot.

Firstly remove the idea of fake visitors. It doesn't work.
Secondly keep patience. Article marketing does work but it take a long time to establish. gather more resource i mean the articles.atleast above 500.the more you make it informative-the more visitors will visit.
    Don't worry.Try more and more.

Yes, article marketing works, as do many other backlinking strategies. The problem is that nearly all of these take time. The best advice is to consistently build links (through article submission or otherwise) and don't expect good rankings for at least 1 month, or possibly much more if your keyword is competitive.

realecon has a good point..most people dont pay attention to the ezine article keywords they give you...play to win.. also writing articles can be time consuming if you are not used to it. I rather pay someone myself..that's just my 2 cents. nevertheless it does generate income when done right...stay with it...if you dare!!!!
