Short VS Long URL Structure affects SEO?

hey warriors, I have a question to ask regarding the length of the URL structure. I know many people have recommended for short URL, but I'm just wondering whether would it be better if I have longer URL.

I'm revamping my ecommerce site and currently changing the current url structure to example.com/category-name/product-name, but also considering example.com/product-name

Assuming I want to target these keywords "kw1 kw2" in

Product category page - kw1.com/kw2-cell-phones
Product page - kw1.com/kw2-cell-phones/kw2-kw3-cell-phone

Would I be able to rank high for "kw1 kw2" & "cell phone" for both pages?

Or rather the above keywords that I targeting for product page would be diluted and it would be better to keep shorter url for the product page and focus targeting on longtail keyword - "kw2 kw3 cell phone":

Shorten version of product page - kw1.com/kw2-kw3-cell-phone

I hope I don't confuse you guys.. :p

I would try to get as many keywords as possible in as long as it fits logically and will create an exact match for you. For example, if you are trying to rank for "big blue cell phones" then a url like this would be good: example.com/big-blue-cell-phones

This url would also be good for ranking for "blue cell phones", but not as good for "big cell phones" since it is not an exact match. If you do your other SEO well you could definitely still rank well for "big blue phones", but it would be slightly more difficult.
