Book suggestions for SEO and internet marketing?

Hi guys,

can you suggest any good books for SEO, search engine marketing and just general marketing on the internet.

I was looking at a section of internet marketing in Borders and just felt overwhelmed with a sheer number of books; however, when I picked up several of them - it was just junk. One book had a half it dedicated to opening Adwords account with most of the pages taken up by screen shots.

I am looking for something more advanced than just "select relevant keywords" and "get back links" type of thing.

    Honestly by the time anything makes it to a book, it's completely useless and all the techniques are old hat.

    The only thing I bought worth anything was the grok's (FutureNow's Marketing Conversion Rate Optimization Blog: GrokDotCom) book on increasing conversions. It brings up ideas you never thought of like persona mapping.

    Aaron Wall's SEO Book, is your basic bible and he updates it. If your a total newbie, it's pretty decent.

      You will have a hard time finding good SEO and internet marketing resources in bookstores. Majority of it are too basic or too outdated.

      Search the internet and you'll find really good ones.

      For SEO, there are a lot of free good resources out there. One of it is Google's own Webmaster Help Central (SEO section).

      I suggest you watch the videos at YouTube - GoogleWebmasterHelp's Channel and subscribe to it.

      All you need to know about SEO is there really. Follow the SEO section in this forum too.

      For internet marketing, there are a lot out there and unfortunately, most of it will be junk. What I recommend is choose one that suits your personality and stick to it. Don't buy another one until you made money from it.
