I've got more high quality links than my competition and I'm on Page 8! What's on?

Hi, I've been a member of this forum for a while now and in that time feel I have learned a lot as a relative newbie. However, I have been applying what I have learned here but I don't seem to be getting the results that I am hoping for,. So, I was hoping that some of you may be able to offer some advice.

The story so far....

Three months ago I set up an amazon review site targetting a keyword with 12,000 exact monthly searches. Using Market Samurai's competition analysis, Toys 'r' us is ranking at number 1 with 60 backlinks - of which 4 are from pagerank 4 pages, 1 is from a page rank 3 page and the rest ore page rank 0. The rest of the sites on page one for my keyword have an average of 10 backlinks.

According to Market Samurai only 2 of the pages in the top ten are fully optimised with the keyword in the url, title, description and header.

In my newbie opinion I figured this was a low competition keyword to go for.

Three months later I have a fully on-page optimised website (url, header, etc) with over 250 varied backlinks counted for my site, and many more waiting to be counted. These include profile links, social bookmarks, web 2.0 properties and blog comments.

The majority of my links are from pr0 pages but from high pr domains. And over the last week I have obtained 3x pr6 and 2 x pr2 onpage blog comments and a directory listing with an on-page pr of 5, which are already counting for my site (as per seo spyglass).

What I can't understand is why I am stuck on page nine and don't seem to be moving.

Does google not like me or something? Did I not judge my competition correctly? Or am I just being impatient.

I would really appreciate any comments/advice any of you might have.

Kind regards

Chris

They could be many reasons for it.Proper site analysis is essential before giving any proper advice. If you are getting links from high pr pages then surely you have a good chance to rank high.By high pr I mean the link from the exact pr page and not from any other pages.Although you may be getting more backlinks from inner pages of high pr domains but they hold little value as compared to the pages which have the actual pr.

I have been seeing the same problem too and I am coming round to thinking amazon has got something to do with it. On your home page, do you have links to Amazon and if so how many?

This is normal, it is impossible to predict where Google will place you for keyword you go for based on the quality or quantity of your backlinks.

There are many, many factors involved that scews rankings (around 200 apparently).

From testing we can see that they include domain age, backlink relevance, Page Rank, backlink age, backlink structure/diversity, etc.

Just keep building those links, use different methods like article marketing, blog posting, forum posting, etc. to build them.

You should continue a steady pattern and you should see some steady improvements.

Your success also depends completely on what your competition is doing so it is impossible to determine how long it will take or how many backlinks you need.

    Cheers,
    Dave
