All In One SEO Plugin Question

Hi

I have noticed on the search engines my posts show an excerpt from my post text in the description field rather than the description that I have written into the excerpt field in wordpress. Is this because I need to add my description into the SEO Description field instead of the excerpt field?

I have only noticed this recently and that is the only thing I can think to try is there a reason fro this?

    The field for the SEO plugin is near the bottom of the page. You might have to expand it. And if you modify it check the source code and not the SERPs to see if the changes have been made. The SERPs will be delayed a few days.

    Often, search engines will show the content of your meta title and meta description when listed.

    If you don't have a meta description or search engines for some reason don't like your meta description they will show what they feel is relevant text from your page.

    Adding content to the excerpt textarea will only show if your page is written to show excerpts instead of the full content <?php the_excerpt() ?> vs. <?php the_content() ?>

    So, if you are not using the SEO Description field and your theme doesn't have a fallback meta description (most don't), search engines are going to pull whatever text they feel is relevant from your page content regardless of if your page is written to show the full content or an excerpt.

    Thanks for the advice. Like you say im pretty sure its because i was leaving it blank. I will change it and see what happens in a few days!
